I'll start:
Is it sad that I'm a married 35 (almost 36) year old male with two kids, a serious career, etc, with one of these in the house?
BTW - I built this myself with about $40 in supplies from the local Home Despot.

unfortunaly, no. I built this a few years ago. It's 1 inch square aluminum tubing and such. It's all bolt-together as well - no welding! I can provide more pics and detail if interested.
Dude after you're married with a family, who cares how big a nerd you are? You've got everyone you need to impress right there.
More info please. My 6 year old is now playing NFS Shift and has been asking when I am going to build one of those. One that bolts together and is on casters will go a long way with my wife.
38 with two boys and a girl on the way, go nerds.
I will take more pics and try to put together a build sheet over the next week. It was pretty easy and has quite a bit of adjustment (seat and wheel are both adjustable fore and aft) so it fits most adults but I'm sure it could be scaled back to fit a youngster. If you can find a seat for free, and you already have a wheel, then everything else is off the shelf. My caster set up is probably over kill, but I was going for height so I have big wheels and 6 inches of wood added in there as well.
I'll have to post pics later - I meant to get mine built this past weekend using an old E30 sport seat and a pile of scrap 1" square tubing but... time being what it is - I ran out before I really even got started.
I need a guide (a human guide) to lead me in exploring a junkyard in MI to find one... I'm one of those types who it helps (a lot) to have someone mentor me in potentially intimidating circumstances...
Frankly, I don't even know where to look for a junkyard, but I've been dreaming of a similar setup for a while...

Ask around your local car show, cruise night, etc. Google is also your friend - that will turn you on to some of the larger pick 'n pulls in your area. Most seats are held in with 4 bolts, so with a basic set of hand tools/sockets, you should be able to find a seat pretty easy - if it's not already out of the car.
I've got 2 standard seats out of my old E46 BMW (pulled when I put the amazing M3 seats into it) that I've been meaning to build out - one into a rig like that for racing sims and one into an office chair complete with functioning power adjustment and heated seats. Looking forward to seeing a build sheet for your rig. Of course, then I'll have to finally put together a decent gaming setup - I'm thinking one of the $100 XBox 360s, Forza and an inexpensive wheel/pedal setup would do just fine. Then again, I've been really wanting to try GPL out, which would require building a newer computer or upgrading the currently unused beast sitting in my home office. All around a busy professional career and a wife and 2 kids...
