Why is this:
called a caddy? Pic shamelessly hotlinked from, well, this board.
because somebody somewhere thought it sounded cool. I've wondered myself where that came from. Maybe from 'cowboy caddy', but I always understood that to be a beat-up pickup.
After buying the above Caddy, I joined a Board in England. Imagine a 1996 Jetta whacked off into a pickup.
Added to the list of cool stuff we can't have.

Caddy
–noun
Golf . a person hired to carry a player's clubs, find the ball, etc.
a person who runs errands, does odd Jobs, etc.
caddie cart.
any rigidly structured, wheeled device for carrying or moving around heavy objects: a luggage caddie.
a container, rack, or other device for holding, organizing, or storing items: a pencil caddy; a bedspread caddy.
Chiefly British . tea caddy.
So if you look at all those descriptions you see that a caddy is generally designed to hold and transport things.......Kinda like a VW caddy...get it?
And as it was based on the "golf" the name "caddy" is just perfect.
