I have worked in every facet of the automotive maintenance industry. I started as a GM technician, bounced into dealership dispatching, then body shop estimating, aftermarket parts sales, aftermarket part store management, high performance part store management, salvage yard management, then back into the dealerships as a service advisor.
Since my divorce I really haven't been as shiny or as happy as I was previously. a lot of financial stress added to the emotional stresses of my life combined with a stressful job (there are a few people here that can tell you stories, I am certain). So since my relocation to the bustling metropolis of Battle Creek, Mi I have decided to investigate a different career path. My goals were pretty concise:
1: NO commission pay
2: Stable company
3: Good pay, even if it is hard work
4: Local with the ability to transfer if the wind changes
5: A company that invests in its employees
I thought that it was a reasonable set of expectations. I am currently employed and I started combing all of the employment sites and the like. By chance the lady that works the service drive with me posted a note about an open hire at Denso Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. DMMI is a big player in the OE and aftermarket parts supply. They often hire through temp to hire positions and the opportunity to direct hire is rare. I filled out an application and sent my resume along. I made it through the initial interviews and was called in for a basic skills assessment with about 100 other people. I was the top performer of all recruits when the dust settled. A few weeks later they called about 20 of us in for some more interviews and more skills tests. At this point I have gotten to know the testing staff pretty well and I was told that it was "a shame those 19 people were all fighting for 4 positions". I chuckled and said "I thought there was 5?" Troy responded "I wasn't counting yours."
Fast forward to last week, I receive a call from the DMMI HR office telling me that I will need to be at the security desk at 2:00 wednesday.
In the words of my 5 year old... "Yea me!"
