What's with the particle masks? Is it so their teeth won't get completely lost when they hit the logs?

I was in Brown Mountain, NC several years ago; we were tubing down a river and saw a bunch of the locals standing at the top of a huge rock which ended in the river. They squirted dish detergent on the rocks, sloshed water on that and then slid down. I did it about 10 or 15 times, man was that fun!
