I know, I know, I'm looking for the holy grail - a non-bulky, cheap ($200), SA2005 helmet for autox and occasional track day use..

Any recommendations? I like the looks of the G-Force Hybrid, but I've heard it's a little thick and bulky. My car has a sunroof so headroom can be an issue. Also, I have an XL head, which doesn't help.

All tips will be appreciated.

Are you looking for full-face or open-face? Open-face tend to be cheaper.

I like the HJC AR-10 (http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop/hjc-ar10-sa2005-helmet-p-3347.html). I tried it on at HMS Motorsport and it fits me well. A few guys I know who own HJC bike helmets say they fit people with narrower faces better, so try one on if you can. It's fairly light. A few guys I've talked to with the helmet say the ventilation system is awesome. They're usually $300, but the link I provided has it for $270. Only reason I haven't bought one for myself yet is because I just bought some R-comps.

I understand where you're coming from with the sunroof issue. My FC has a sunroof. At an autocross last Sunday, I initially used a full-face loaner with a really scratched-up visor. I barely fit with the visor down, but I was having trouble seeing out of it. When I put the visor up, the edge of the sunroof opening kept knocking it back down over my face. It was distracting. I then switched to an open-face helmet, but I couldn't fit without opening the sunroof all the way.

Actually, if it was just autocross, I'd probably get one of the open-face-plus-extended cheeks jobs. but I may start doing more track days, and I figurre full face is the way to go.

My face ain't too narrow, so I'll see if I can try one of those HJCs on first.

Thanks for the info. Anybody else?

I second the AR-10. Excellent helmet for the money. It even has removable padding so you can go and wash it.

I strongly urge you to go try one on. My measurements were for a large, but I ended up getting a small after much it time trying it on in the shop. I would never have picked it correctly without a shop. I thanks the HMS guys too for their advice time spent letting me find the right fit.
