My phone is like me--not smart. My ex has a smart phone--a Droid I believe. She had the kids last night and when I called and left a voicemail and sent 2 texts (between 5 and 6pm) to talk to them I was not afforded a reply. They were at the Brewers game last night.
I just got a voicemail saying that she got the messages at midnight when they got home--but her phone was not 'updated' so therefor my messages did not reach her at the time that I sent them. She did however manage to post that she was at the game on her Facebook page...
I think her story is crap. Is that possible that her phone worked well enough to post that she was at the stadium--but not well enough to miss two texts and a voicemail?
Sounds like baloney to me.

My girlfriend had the problem where she could send texts but not receive them. She could call people, I don't know if she was able to receive calls or voicemail. In her case, she was not on a smartphone, and it happened because she had switched cell phone towers (went from Chicago to Rockford and back). When she turned her phone off and back on, she got inundated with about 25 text messages.
So it might be possible.

I should add--she has a history of doing this (I left my phone in the car...whatever) so that I cannot talk to the kids...
This was in an area that would have very strong cell signals--there is a near zero chance of that being an issue. We've talked/texted before in near identical circumstances.
It's completely plausible, and happens all the time inside my house. I have wifi, so I can do all those internet-type-things, but my actual cell signal sucks, so I don't get phone calls or receive text messages unless I'm in the right part of the right rooms.
This is one of those times were email would have been the more reliable way to go.

Do smartphones need an occasional "update" to work?

No ST- they don't. I've had several over the years (Blackberry, and now android) and I can tell you from personal experience that I kept old phones on old OS's multiple times to prevent unwanted changes..... and they worked fine. She's feeding you a line.
I don't know about the "update" part, but I do run into messages that were sent at one time but didn't actually make it to my phone until significantly later.
E36 M3 happens...
So, what was so important that you're this flustered about the lack of response?
I mean, yeah, none of my business, all that...
IDK about her excuse, it is 50/50 chance of being bs/reality.
I will say that my blackberry, long in the tooth and pretty well used, sometimes doesn't recieve texts, sometimes deletes all texts and sometimes misses calls. I've been holding on since January for the Iphone5
Sounds like a trust issue.

Sure, E36 M3 happens...but does it happen three times over a 60 minute period, while still working fine enough to post on FB? Just seems like a load of bovine scatology to me.

Because I am sick of not being able to talk to my kids on the nights that she has placement.
Actually a couple times last week - I could send txt messages but for some reason would not recieve them and when people called it went to VM - I didn't get the VM's orTxt till somtime next day.. Droid 2 on Verizon..
Get your kids a phone and have them call you?

Oldest is 9 and youngest is 5--I think we'd go thru a lot of $9.99 Tracphones...

Could you have updated your online status at that time (FB or twitter etc.)? I Get that phones go down...but it would seem that she would not be able to post online and NOT get calls/texts simutaneously.

I don't think those go through the same process. Posting on FB just requires internet access, sms goes over the same system as cell phone messages. If there was WiFi where she was, for example, she would get email and be able to post, but the cell access might not be good.
I've also got instant messages and even email way late. Sure, it is possible that she is bs'ing you. But this isn't strong enough evidence to burn her on it, IMHO.

I don't know if there is WiFi at the stadium, perhaps--but don't those phones work on the 3G/4G systems so that they don't need it? I am certain that there is max cell signal all over the ballpark (Miller Park in Milwaukee)...this is a urban/downtown area.

Solution: Maybe have a mutual friend call/text her next time. See if their text magically goes through/is worth responding to. Sorry dude. Sounds like a E36 M3 situation.

Being able to talk to your kids seems pretty berkeleying important to me.

That we can agree on Poop...that is a good idea too (mutual friend call)...
