Apparently, that would include simply walking, working, climbing out of a truck, and a bunch of pretty mundane tasks that many of us don't consider stupid. In my line of work we see snakes in electric motors, motor control centers, around transformers, and all around buildings, inside and out, upstairs and down. Occasionally someone gets bitten. Occasionally, a snake gets killed.

I try to avoid obvious snake hangouts. Snakes, on the other hand apparently have no qualms about sneaking around and hanging out in people places.

I've got a 5 foot black snake that rambles around my property. We bump into each other occaisionally - usually on my workbench or in my shop garage. He runs like hell and so do I. I bear no ill will, but I startle easily. He's welcome until he gets into one of my cars. I consider a snake crawling out from under the dash while driving down the interstate to be endangering my life whether or not he's actually poisonous.

I'm also in N Florida and my yard has plenty of snakes. Mostly harmless, but the occasional pygmy rattlesnake. I get rid of them all. I don't mind them so much, but my wife HATES them and has threatened to make us move if she ever finds one in the house. My 2 year old son is also too young to really teach not to touch one. In fact, just yesterday some neighborhood kids were playing with a dead snake that had gotten hit by a scooter or something. Took my eyes of my son for 2 seconds and he headed straight for it and reached down to pick it up. So I agree you don't exactly have to be stupid to get bitten. If I come across one in the woods, I by all means leave it alone.

So, we were heading out the door to the car show dinner and one of the dogs was going off. I didn't see any deer, and she was barking towards the dog house. I looked, and there was a copperhead, about 5' long, and maybe 2" diameter. It was 2 ft from the dog house opening, inside the pen. Well, I tried to send Joey an email to tell him to come get it, but my computer wasn't online, so I got my 22 Luger instead and sent Mr. or Ms. copperhead to meet their maker and we both went on our separate ways. I'm sure the dogs will go off again tonight when the 'coon or possum chow down on the bits of copperhead still on this plane.

One less.

Why would you email me? What could I have done? Also... Luger .22?

Just picking on you Joey. Don't be so literal. It was a joke. You're all like - Save the berkeleying poisonous snakes. Yeah, Luger .22. Stoeger Arms Luger .22. I wanted one since I was a kid looking at the magazines and saw one in a pawn shop years ago for a bill, so I bought it. It's a fun little pistol. This one has a cast iron receiver. All that weight make it have virtually zero recoil. It's no High Standard, but it's good enough fer snakes and such.

I know you were picking on me... I was being sarcastic. Though I never said save the "berkeleying" snakes. I just think we need more predators. Thin out the varmints.

I wondered if it was a stoeger .22. Those go for pretty good money nowadays. Never E36 M3 one myself though.
