Had it done a few years ago, no issues. Just be sure to take it easy for a few days and a bag of frozen peas are your best friend.
My buddy decided to be a tough guy and go grocery shopping with his wife right after the procedure. They were at the far end of one of those huge grocery stores when the freezing wore off. He needed a wheelchair to get out to the car. His wife let everyone in earshot know what the problem was on the way out.

Did they use the clamp method?
You better hope they used Maco vice grips.
I had mine done... twice. First time he must have grabbed the same vas twice. That was the first time it had happened for him.
Not sure what mine was "called," but he snipped, cauterized, and sewed it outside the Plan Plex. He doesn't use clamps because eventually the clamps atrophy the vas (think of a rubber band around your finger) and the clamp falls off exposing an open vas.
Felt like getting kicked in the nuts indeed, but two days later I was back to my old tricks, if you know what I mean. WAY worth it.
Oh, and by the way, I'm supposed to... um... keep cleaning the pipes for six weeks then give a sample. Doc said that he has yet to encounter a live sperm count of anything other than zero. That is, until he botched my first one He said, once I pass that 6-week check, I am considered sterile. No further checks required.
Fortunately I have a wife who is a Vet Nurse, so every once in a while I can give her a little dollop and she can do her own check at work.

FWIW, that definitely does not happen for everyone.
Maybe not, and it doesn't last forever, anyway. But when you're basically happy with each other and just feeling a little too frazzled, it's definitely one fewer hurdles to clear between you.
Had it done almost 25 years ago. Snipped, removed a small section (about 1/8") and cauterized. I was really brave, had it done while in the military at a military hospital. Doc said you'll feel a pinch when he stuck the needle in, I sat straight up reaching for him and he calmly looked at me and said "you don't want to do that". I stopped, thought about where he was and laid back down. The other side didn't hurt as much knowing what was coming. Had it done on a friday morning, crawled in my K5 Blazer and drove home then took SWMBO shopping. I stayed in the truck while she shopped. That silly contraption they gave me to wear caused some bruising though, a jock strap with a hole in it basically.

Get well. I just wish guys had more options for bc other than rubbers and the snip.
I had it done about 20 years ago. If anybody asks me, I tell them it's just like going to the dentist. You can't really feel much other than some tugging and pulling, and you have no idea what he's doing, but you know you wouldn't like it if you did. There was a very nice looking nurse that was a pro at distracting me, so that helped. Hearing the cauterizing then looking up and seeing the same soldering iron I had at home was weird. The pain for me was minimal, and only lasted a few days.

I have heard this is not fun. For the heck of it: WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU WILLINGLY DO THAT TO YOURSELF!?!? Is it supposed to help with avoiding health issues down the road?

The pain gets better in a couple days. Swelling is a bit... Interesting.
No issues there for the last 13 years, and the gun's still loaded. And from the sound of it, it ain't so "worry-free." So do you guys shoot powdered milk or what?
dID THIS almost 2 years ago. Wife was 36, I 34(soon to be 35) and we had decided to not have kids. Wife had been on birth control for a steady 8 years. Long term pill use can have some adverse affects on a womans hormones and cause lead to heart issues etc.
My suggestion: Go under. Mine were cut and cauterized. To this day, the smell of a bolt being cut by a cutoff wheel reminds me of that.
The frozen peas thing didn't work for me at all. I ran out of room after 1/2-2/3 of the bag and ended up with sore nuggets and a belly ache...

I'd have some serious questions if my wife got preggers after I had a vasectomy. You guys did go to the doctor and get your lack of swimmers checked, right? I tried to get one when I was 22, but the doctor said I was too young.
Aside from my moral issues with it... (I don't feel like arguing about it today.)
Cousin-in-law had it done after 3 kids. Wound up divorcing the wife (who wanted it) and remarrying. They had it reversed and conception has been a real struggle for them. It's something worth considering. Just because you think you don't want any more now doesn't mean that will hold true in the future.
What happens in terms of sperm production, etc.? It's not like the production just stops because you closed the door on them.
I apparently have a high tolerance for anesthesia, so I felt most of the procedure. I don't recommend that. Good advice on getting an annual check for swimmers, I had not heard that one before.
As for why: I don't have to think about birth control 10-20 times a week anymore.
Have you people not heard of birth control pills? Are there people in marriage really running around wearing jimmy caps in this day and age? Are you 16 years old or something?
My wife's a veterinarian...
Would this be the GRM way to get the job done?
attaches to any variable speed reversable drill
I think I still have one of those in the barn.
If you want to change up you look a little after you're done, there's always these.
Apparently they are only sold in pairs...

After I divorced, I was in a relationship with a woman that REALLY wanted my child. Well, sorry, no can do. How about a reversal? Her ex was a surgeon, so she knew a lot about medicine. Nope, no can do!!!! After we broke up, I was even more glad that I did not have the reversal. As Jimmie Buffet said "A permanent reminder of a temporary feeling".

You still make sperm but they cannot go anywhere. They die and get eaten by cells that clean up the debris and bits as they sperm break down. eventually the clean up crew get used to eating sperm and they eat any of them living or dead. When that happens the connecting the pipes in a reversal surgery may not help...the body is already destroying most of thr sperm. That is why many guys with reversals have low sperm counts

Have you not heard of side effects of taking pills everyday?
Seriously...I don't blame a woman at all for not being ok with taking pills.
I got snipped almost exactly one year ago. I'm happy with that decision. Temporary discomfort (as discussed in the OP) and all.

This. Primary side effect for SWMBO, amongst others, was a positively DESTROYED sex drive. Kind of defeats the purpose, eh?
Threads like this remind me that I need to make a date with the butcher, #3 is NOT happening.

A lot of women put on weight and lose their sex drive while on birth control pills. It defeats the purpose.
"Pull out when you don't want one, leave it in when you do" has worked pretty well for me...of course I probably just jinxed myself. Better PIITB only next couple weeks just to be safe. Then again, I am married and we dig kids, so an "accident" would be a happy one. I guess for some folks it's better than wrapping it up every time, and (from a health standpoint) I'm anti-chemical birth control.
