I think the point of a modern day snow storm is to out smart ass your peers. You literally can't post anything about snow anymore without extreme pretentiousness.

I wasn't being pretentious, I was merely having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive, successful, or important than they really are.

No kidding. Did you hear us complaining? OP wanted a report. This is not the I an sick of winter thread.
I just spent half an hour with my dog out in the back yard watching her disappear in the snow. Then a tail pops up followed by her head. Funniest thing to watch. Then get her trying to fetch snow balls. In three feet of snow. Would not trade it for a warm afternoon on the porch.
ScreaminE wrote: So, how much snow did you guys in the NE get?
Literally - ZERO here in Delawhere. We were forecast to get up to 4 inches last night, followed by an additional up to 8 inches today. There is less snow on the ground now than there was driving home yesterday afternoon, and I'm looking at blue sky and sunshine. It is cold and breezy, but nada in the precipitation department.

This storm was definitely a strange bird. We got more snow both in quantity and time here in Pittsburgh. I was sure it would be a dud because they said it would start at 1pm Sunday and be done by 1pm Monday. It snowed from 5pm Sunday til around 9pm Monday. This morning it snowed another 1/2 inch that wasn't predicted.

I type with stemware in one hand and my pinkie finger extended so I can gesture dismissively at people who are clearly beneath my winter experience standards.
I've always felt you can learn about a car's aero from how the snow accumulates. It shows you where the airflow stagnates.
I love winter. I have lived all over the place and I just keep ending back in the north east.
At the moment the roads are closed to public traffic but I am wanting to get my wifes hummer out and see how it does in this.

That's for sure. Watching coverage this morning- the newcaster in New York showed that it wasn't much for Manhattan, but said that Queens got 10".
Then another broadcast from Plymouth, MA (close to SIL), he was standing in a 3' drift, as the offical accumulation at the time was 1'. Just as he finished, he was blown over by a gust of wind.
So some places it appears to be worse, some places appear to be better.
IMHO, considering what the impact could be, I think being cautious isn't a bad thing. Frustrating if the snow is barely there, sure. But it's better to be frustrated when it's light than stranded if it's heavy.
My SIL's long time ago experience- back in the early 90's a storm in Boston was worse than forecasted- she got stranded on the freeway. Left her car to find safety- which was a good thing, as when she got back to it, the car was totaled by something. She would have been right along with it....

I would put up with weather to get out of Kaliforniastan in a heartbeat if I could but all the jobs are here or in the bay area.
In reply to wearymicrobe:
See... and I'd put up with Kalifornistan politics and horseE36 M3 to get your weather and landscape.
In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:
Just gather up about a cool mil and buy the Baja Peninsula from Mexico. Then rack up a massive amount of international debt and petition the US to annex it. It'll be like Texas all over again.

Offtopic, but have you ever checked Texas? My uncle Mark is similar? to you and he's made all his bank in Plano.
We're up to about 17 inches here in NE CT, it's very powdery, though.. I got the plow truck stuck trying to take care of the driveway, mostly due to the driveshaft wanting to leave the team :(. Looks like the u joints were bad.

I'm in Plano regularly for work. Don't fall for it, they have plenty of E36 M3ty weather there too.

Yeah, but there you have to deal with church and football. Just sayin'.
We've been above freezing and sunny every day for over a week now. Very weird for us. Of course, the only day it mattered to me was Saturday, when I had to drive an hour east to collect a car. Raining in town, just below freezing, waited til 10, then drove out of rain, into sleet, into snow. Loaded the car in snow, then drove back west into sleet, rain, and then sunshine.

Well, there's always Florida, but there you have to deal with Florida Man. Every place has it's compromises.
