I have a hard time believing the Dealership that he traded the truck to didn't remove the decals before it went to auction.

I used to work for someone who bought and sold auction cars all the time and if anything had decals, especially trucks, they came out.
The story just sounds a bit ridiculous.
Yeah I have my doubts about this too.
Sounds a little ridiculous to me, but I personally peeled the decals off the last work truck I sold just for this reason. I don't want my companies name out there if it's not in my direct control. When the phone rings, I want to know who is getting the ass chewing.
I'm curious about the angry calls. Who is dumb enough to think a guy from Texas would donate a truck to the Taliban and advertise it?

Leaving decals\identifying information happens ALL the time. You see trade-ins at auction with the original owner's phone numbers written in soap on the windows all the time.
The company I work for has a couple old trucks running around that they sold to employees that are now ex-employees but still have the full company lettering and phone numbers. I have no doubt that these guys are going around doing work as our company. I've seen them parked in the same subdivisions we are working in. The boss didn't care when I told him about the sightings
Lets hope that homeland security is taking advantage of this.
They know where this truck was traded in and can track the VIN through the auctions. Should end with whoever shipped it out of the country. Thats the guy you need to find and question....
The fact that the plumber is getting death threats makes me weep for humanity.

This doesn't even make sense to me. Reputation is everything in business. Why would you want anyone to have your logos that didn't work for you.
Look at the death threats this company is getting. These people supporting terrorists is so far fetched it's not even funny. Just imaging the mundane crap people will buy into if you leave your signage on old trucks. Not to mention the liability. You don't even have to be legally responsible to be sued.

Stupid people tend to assume everyone else is as stupid as they are.

or as smart as them. I have yet to meet somebody who admitted they are stupid....

You'd be surprised how often it happened. We bought two tow trucks from a dealer that had the old companies info crossed out in Sharpie.
I worked for two companies that bought older work trucks from other companies. We had to remove the original companies info from the trucks before we could add our own
Man, I bought a company truck once and had to peel the lettering off the doors before I was allowed to drive it home.
And I was an employee of that company!
i bought a correct colored door for my truck at the junkyard, now people think i work for akron air products because i haven't peeled it yet, 2 years later.
My winter topper, a big heavy commercial one I toss on instead of hauling sand around, has a "how's my driving, call xxxx" on the back. One of these days I should find out who answers.

Yup. When a work vehicle leaves, even if it's going to be scrapped, the logo needs to come off. You have no idea where it might wind up or what kind of trouble it can cause.
Even worse is the vanity plate; they are generally easy to remember. My dad was the target of a frivolous lawsuit in part because of one. He immediately canceled it and went with a regular anonymous tag.

I don't get it either. He knew the guys he sold them to. I told him my objections to it but he just laughed it off. I think he was getting a kick back. I'm sure his bosses would have had very different reactions. But he is gone now and I'm halfway across the country.
Has anyone asked if the machine gun was mounted in Texas...or Syria?

Excellent question!
I see no reason this couldn't happen, all it takes is someone who can't be assed to remove the company logos which is far too common. A friend of mine once owned a Kei flatbed with the full livery from a local quarry.
We get company vehicles ALL THE TIME with the decals and everything still on them. Sometime I like to customize them before they're peeled off (or in some cases crushed). I wish I could find the pics, but my favorites are "Thuggish Ruggish Bone Heating and Air Conditioning" and one box truck from a company called Hiller. I don't remember what they did, but it was a giant box van that said "Hiller" and had a giant smiley face on it. One red line in the first "l" and a small black mustache is all that one took before it was horribly inappropriate.
Haha! Looks like it was a heating and air place, too.

From the landscape are we sure the pic wasn't taken in Texas?
Here's what gets me:
So let me get this straight. People are subscribing to an Islamic Militant Twitter feed, see this truck, and start dialing the phone number saying "wtf?"
-
If you're an American, why are you subscribed to an Islamic militant's twitter feed in the first place? (I don't twit, but I imagine that's how it works)
-
If you're a fan of this feed: Why call with death threats? did he charge you too much? Did he lie about "that clacking noise" and now it threw a rod?
Something here doesn't jive.
