Some calming help needed. So I bought a 2014 frontier and possibly because of my allergies I didn't notice a smell in the truck. After investigating tonight, I smells like pet urine smell on the factory carpet (not the mats). So is there a good way to get rid of the smell? Remove the carpet and clean with something? Is there a place that sells factory carpet? I probably don't have the option of going back to the dealer. Any help would be appreciated. I feel like an idiot

pull seats, remove carpet, spray with odoban then take to car wash and blast the crap out of it. let hang in sun until dry, reinstall.

or pull carpet, throw away, bedliner the floor.

Don't beat yourself up. Pull the carpet. Trucks are easy. Life's too short.

I know there's some sort of enzyme cleaner that neutralizes the urine odor. Look for it in pet stores.

How long have you owned it? Seems like a dealer owes you some carpet.

Take it in and tell them their detailer missed a spot?

Might be dog piss, but my experience is its usually the halfwit detailer who soaked the carpet down, and didn't dry it before leaving it with the windows all rolled up. Mildewed carpet takes a long time to make right.

The Probe I entered in the $2004 Challenge stank of cat urine and mildew when I got it. I got rid of the smell by soaking the upholstery in Febreeze and using some industrial sized bags of silica desiccant (they were being thrown out at work) in the trunk to keep the interior air dry.

This is not helpful... skip this post if you don't want to feel slightly worse.

I have never known a car to be soiled with pet urine. I do have knowledge of multiple instances of people peeing in cars (NOT me, thankfully, but one instance was a car I owned). Traffic jams on the highway can take a while to clear, and sometimes you need to go when you need to go. On the other hand, none of those cars actually stank of urine after a cleaning, so you might be right on the pet thing...

Maybe someone had a rolling meth lab in it. They are supposed to smell like cat urine.

There's an enzymatic cleaner called Nature's Miracle that works pretty well. Give that a shot before pulling the interior, but yeah, if that doesn't work, wait till you have a few sunny days in the forecast and them powerwash the heck out of the carpet and let it dry.

We use it at the house and it seems to work pretty well for most everything.

Another option if you don't want to DIY is take it to a detailer and tell them exactly what you think the issue is and where. They should be equipped to handle it. Example - my then 1 year old puked milk, etc. in our Explorer in January. I thought I cleaned it thoroughly. First real hot day in May told me otherwise. I took it to a detailer as I didn't have the time or any carpet cleaner or steam cleaner at the time. I had the whole car detailed and I don't think he charged me anything extra for the more thorough carpet scrubbing - he specifically thanked me for telling him where the problem was. I bet for less than $100, maybe a lot less, a detailer could just do the carpet. I think my guy used an enzymatic cleaner or the like, and also a steam cleaner.

When I worked for the 'Max detailers would routinely blast the mats with a pressure washer then hang dry until slightly damp and throw them into the trunk to stink up the car. Crack the windows, bomb it with an odor neutralizer and you should be good to go.

Last year I left my truck at my mothers' house while I took her car to put brakes on it. Left the windows down because garage.

Came back to find her big tomcat had sprayed the interior (literally on the steering wheel). The smell nearly made me puke (and I've smelled some stuff). It took better than 3 months and all the cleanings/airings to get rid of the stink. Good luck!

The smell is actually from the previous owner. You have to pee higher in the truck to show that it is now your property and you are the dominant male.

Natures M was sold to a huge conglomerate and they took out all the enzyme in the product. You want this, from Petastic. Old formulation original company. Bomb the heck out of it, pull the carpet out and power wash it if you can. Then have the car Ozone treated.

In reply to wearymicrobe:

Any idea when that happened? Because I have a big bottle of it in the closet, and if it's useless, I'll get something else.

Any good sporting goods store will have a cleaner for "wicking shirts and hunters clothes" it will remove the Bactria and kill the mold etc. In the hunting section you'll find it in a hand spray if you don't want to pull the carpet you might get away with just a 2-4 sprays spread over a few days.

When I was younger my dad got a screaming deal on a Dodge Ram because it smelled awful when you used the AC. Dad's solution? Don't use the air. It eventually went away, either that or we went noseblind to it.
