After a conversation with my parents about buying a house, and our lack of money, dad actually goes into the office of his company, and asks his bosses if they're hiring. Turns out they are. One application and a short interview later, and I got the job.
The place is in Lexington and is one of the largest commercial glass companies in the state. They've done these buildings.

The Elizabethtown Hall of Justice.

The University of Kentucky School of Pharmacy.
Pops is a glazer, basically they hang all this glass.
They're starting me out in the fab shop, which worries me because I haven't touched a welder since high school, and even then I've never MIG welded, only Arc. They said that it's like riding a bicycle, anyone else feel that way?
This is pretty much gonna double my pay, so I've quite excited about that. One downside is the early shift. I have to be at work at 6:30, and Lexington is about 90 minutes away. Yeah.
I am however very much looking forward to working with my hands again.
Awesome! Always good to have someone pull for you from inside.
Don't worry about the welding. I'm still learning. If you suck now you can only get better.
Yea, I think welding is like riding a bicycle. You may be a little rusty, but I'd bet on a quick recovery.
You'll get used to the early shift. That's no big deal. Just remember to go to sleep early.
Sounds like you've got it made now. Congratulations.
MOVE! Even if it is to Lawrenceburg, Versailles, Frankfort, Danville or Richmond.
I could teach my wife MIG in about a hour. It really is that easy.
I can ride in a company truck on company gas from here. Plus get paid for the trip, so I think I'll stay here and live rent free.
I'm most excited about getting out in the field, because there they get scale pay. Dad has made as much as 32.50/hr before.
mucho congrats on the new job
MIG is a better starting place than stick, IMO anyway
and ... in my case it was like falling off a bicycle, but hey that kinda works too

Dad gets you a killer job and you don't pay rent? I think you need to think about that.
My family and I live in a mobile home that belonged to my grandfather, we remodeled it and everything in here is ours, we pay all the utilities and groceries, just no rent or mortgage payment.
Hopefully we can save a metric butt ton and do the Dave Ramsey 100% down house plan.
Congrats.

I hope not, I've broken a foot, and seven fingers falling off bikes
Congrats man! This is a great move for you.
Good news! Let us know when the first building gets some of your work.

I'll be sure to keep you in business. Lets go find some rocks!
Congrats. If you can stick weld, MIG will be pretty easy for you.
