and a guy sends me a PM asking about the item I'm selling. I never heard of his user name before, and so I go to check it and he's not listed in the directory.
So I have a couple questions.
I had a similar incident happen, not an ad, but I sent a pm and the recipient texted my phone? I thought that odd, if I am remembering right?
I logged out to see if it's possible, and was able to see the contact button in the drop down menu of your profile thingme. I had a hell of a time logging back in, too, so you're welcome. PM's only come via email. Ask for correct contact info, and even a phone number if you're suspicious.

This brings to light a new concern for me. I always assumed that only GRM people would respond to an ad on this board. That brought a certain confort level with it. I guess I'll have to be more careful in the future.

Most of the other forums I'm on have an option to receive mail from members you can enable or disable. I was unable to find one in the profile info here.
