It's crazy how there is "nothing new under the sun". I had no idea the original Dukes was so different than the later episodes (that I grew up on). I'll have to see those for sure. AND I had no idea the show was based on a movie before that. I guess it's true that there are only SO many plots out there and we just keep reissuing the same old stuff. I liked the movie I am Legend, but all my friends thought it was something new. Nope, been done 2 other times...

And I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the greatest car movie of all.... Day of Thunder!

They even got Luigis suspension right. REAL movies can't manage that.

I HIGHLY suggest you NOT watch Bullit then. You will miss one of the best car chase scenes ever filmed, but I guess you have to have you standards.

I actually own Bullitt on DVD there aircooled. There's a BIG difference between Bullitt and Deathproof... Bullitt is actually good the whole way through. Never compare a classic piece of film to that over-hyped B-Movie E36 M3 again thanks!

I visited Pixar while they were working on Cars - one of the guys there wanted to see the Locost. It's fair to say that yes, there are car guys there. There was a Nash Metropolitan in the parking lot, and they're right across the street from Fantasy Junction.

So, last night I flipped on the TV - and Smokey and the Bandit, Driven and the Blues Brothers were all playing. I went for the first, I've never actually seen it (gasp!). Quite enjoyable. I probably wouldn't have watched it if it hadn't been for this discussion!

One of the rolled cop cars in Smokey was very clearly missing any sort of transmission and engine. 32 years before that Subaru in FFFF & FFFF.

+2. that was a great car guy movie, but it also reached out to non car people (ie girlfriends...) So thats a good one.

CArs may have been the perfect movie. I watched it as few hundred times in the hospital with my wife and nephew and only came up with a few small changes. I would have replaced Bob Costas with Ken "Country" Squire. When I think Nascar Commentator he's the first that comes to mind. I Also would have tried to work AJ Foyt in, even if it couldn't be a speaking role since it was a kids movie. Maybe he could have thrown something at the Rust-eze boys.

i want Mario Andretti to be a voice of a character so he can remind me to check my tires...

Yes, I bought it from a Mom & Pop video store that was going out of business.Cheesy rock & roll plot (or sub-plot depending on your point of view), but a decent car flick.

Robert Vaughn even admitted Bullit doesn't make any sense. In fact he talkes about a conversation with Steve McQueen that he admitted it didnlt matter becuase the movie was about the chase.

The acting might be very good in Bullit, but to be honest, I like Kirk Russell and thought Deathproof was well acted for it's cheesiness. But to claim Bullit is good the whole way through is just a bit of a stretch.

Among terrible movies with a fun car chases lie No Man's Land and The Wraith but you need to have a pretty high Charlie Sheen tolerence

Oh good. I can't stay awake for Bullit. So it's not just me. Whew!

Now the original Gone in 60 Seconds, that's awesome because the acting is so awful. Like Graham Hill levels of awful. But that's okay, because they're just going through the motions to set up the chase.

The Original Gone is better skipped to the second half...

And yeah, I really did like Bullitt.

I love Cars though.

Don't forget, Gone is REAL stunts filmed on real streets in real traffic without a permit at times in a very real Mach 1. Guerilla filmmaking at it's finest.

Remake Gone is nick cage jumping a CGI (bridge scene) mustang-that-never-was.
