to build a bigass, binford 9000 style vacuum cleaner. i have a couple of 110 volt belt drive 4-5 horse electric motors from dead stationary power saws, a welder, and no concept of self preservation.
i also have no idea how to proceed.
any suggestions guys?
use a turbo compressor for suction. Or 2. Twin stage. That is all I have.
Now you just need some impellers to drive with those motors, and a bag/filtration system (or two, one for each impeller). Can you scavenge commercial vacuum parts? Or maybe leaf blower/industrial ventilation parts for the impellers?
Take the top off of 2 6HP shopvacs and duct them together with a cut up 55g drum. Add 2 into 1 PVC tubing for intake, cut a "dirty" port to a bag in the middle of the drum and some sort of cart to wheel it on.
Pulse jet. Doubles as a incinerator.

I thought I'd been told the answer is always Miata.
forget the electric. Find something 2-stroke in the 250cc department.
does it have to be electric? I am thinking gaspowered
I think you want electric for the serious high RPM you need to spin to generate a full vacuum with a 6" diameter hose. I mean, if it can't suck up small rodents from 4 feet away, what's the point?
What kind of tubing are you going to employ? It needs to not collapse.
Please keep this coming.
If im building this thing, I want it to suck wallpaper off. From across the room.
Nothing on hand other than the previously mentioned supplies.
No gas. This will be run indoors.

Look at Parker litter VAC's as well as street sweepers for inspiration.
Karcher, minuteman, powerboss, American Lincoln and hako all manufacture stuff that should give you some ideas.
Yeah... I used to work on commercial cleaning gear.

Maximum overkill, no filter necessary. You = Genius.
