Yesterday afternoon, a car cut me off to make a left turn. I managed to stop, the Cadillac behind me could not. Got hit at 25-30 mph and slightly pushed into the car who cut me off. That car then left, the guy in the Cadillac ended up being a very nice guy and even loaned me shoelaces off his golf shoes he had in the trunk to tie up my bumper so I could limp it back to work. I've already contacted his insurance and mine and spent some
time in the ER after they did X-rays and thought I had some slipped discs. Thankfully I did not and they sent me home, pretty sore today but otherwise ok. Never had an accident before, hoping I'm doing everything correctly at this point. Not sure about the damage on the Versa yet, both quarters have some decent creasing and obviously the bumper is done for. It's at a shop waiting for his insurance to come check it out. Can't imagine it's going to be a crazy amount, but after looking at values online last night it won't take much to total it out. But I have GAP so If it does then its no big deal.
People are the worst. Glad youre ok. This reminds me that I really need to install a dash cam...
Well, that sucks. Take it easy for a few days and take anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen if you can) for the stiffness.

Uh, not everybody. 2 of the 3 in this incident are good people.
And only one of the other drivers that were sharing the road with them all was a complete waste of a body.
I was just shopping for dashcams too. Any recommendations?
That's the plan, they gave me Tylenol with codeine, I think that's a bit overkill so I probably won't take it. but I will definitely take ibuprofen.

Techmoan on YouTube gives pretty comprehensive reviews of dashcams. If you got a couple hours to kill it may be worth a look.
In reply to thedanimal:
Also, dashcamtalk.com has good charts and information.
I've personally been running the mini 080X series and haven't had any issues.

Well, I shouldve qualified my statement...TYPICALLY, people are the worst. Occasionally, they are the best.
I just picked up this one after my cheap Black Box G1W camera failed to record a incident even though it said it was recording.
KDLINKS DX2. It's a little pricey, but I wanted the front and rear cameras and the polarized filter.

Based on the data, you have that backward. 1/3 is more occasional than typical.
Let alone when you put the one within the population of the rest of the drivers.
Basically, I'm trying to fight the perception that people are inherently bad, when the opposite is actually happening in the real world. Like there's only 1 really a-hole driver among all of the drivers I commute along. Maybe 10 who are jerks. And all the people minding their own business in right and middle lane- they are just getting to work like me.
If you claim that more people than not are "the worst"- then you, by default, include yourself on someone else's list of bad people. And I don't think many here would consider themselves bad.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. So far things are coming along ok, a little sore today and the insurance company is covering the rental along with medical bills for my brief visit in the ER.
Good to hear that you are recovering fast!

THREADJACK! Sorry to the OP. Glad no one was hurt.
How easy/clean was the install on the cameras? Is hardwiring to the mirror an option?

Im pretty sure that i am a flaming shiny happy person most of the time.
On topic: my best friend got the cheapest dascam amazon had while in the custody battle. They worked ok. I wouldn't reccomend them though.

I suctioned it to the windshield behind the mirror. All the wiring harnesses are plenty long enough to get them hidden over the headliner and down the A pillar.
If you took the time it could look nicer, but this is my work truck so I didn't put a lot of effort into the install. It took me about 15 minutes.

I like that, I will definitely take a look at that set up. It would be especially good in this situation since I did actually hit the car who caused the accident. Can't imagine it will be an issue, but you never know these days and it would be nice to go back and have footage to review. Fun display of physics here, I had a full can of sparkling water in the cup holder when I got hit. All of the water spilled but only a little actually hit the floorboard, the rest neatly filled my cupholder.
Find the runner, make his life miserable.
So the estimate came back on the Versa. It's not totaled but will take $5300 to fix. Needs a new rear body panel, both quarters are getting straightened and the bumper is getting replaced. I'm not super thrilled about getting it back with all the repairs and the fact that half the car will be resprayed. The car isn't worth much to begin with, but now it really won't be worth anything. Because lets face it - no one wants a stick, crank windows base model Versa. But it is what it is, I just hope the repairs are solid.

Kinda sorta pretty much this.
My attitude about drivers changed a lot after I saw "I, Robot". When Will Smith's character was describing the guy who caused the accident that changed his life.
Headed back to the station. Normal day, normal life. The driver of a semi fell asleep at the wheel. Average guy, wife and kids, working a double. *Not* the devil.
People just be people trying to be peoplin', you know?
(Still no sympathy for people who buy big trucks as personal vehicles and then crawl through the streets because they can't navigate narrow lanes or inclement weather that their vehicle can't handle - that's just making the rest of the world suffer for their own poor life choices)

How the hell is 5300 not a total value on a manual crank window versa (which incidentally is exactly what we bought swmbo, right down to your color, save it's a hatchback)?

Your logic train has completely lost me with respect to what this thread is about. The OP is looking for help/advice to handle the accident he was in. How is this relevant?
In reply to mndsm: I really don't know. Last apparaisal it was worth $8k kbb and black book agree it's worth $7k. I guess my only hope is diminished value after it's repaired. All estimates with notating prior accident history put it in the $4k -$4,500 range.

It's not just overkill, it's doctors' efforts to increase the number of drug addicts in order to pad their bottom line. There are surely more "bad" doctors than bad drivers.
In reply to mndsm:
That's the plan at this point, it is what it is. The Versa does everything I need it to do at this point. Anyone know the proper way to go about diminished value?
