I had this crazy dude grill me up some oysters. Anybody who doesn't wear gloves when shucking oysters is a mad man. 

We did absolutely nothing of importance today. The weather sucked. Rained all day. I read. Annie read. We went to Bill's for dinner, where we saw my high school history teacher who recently turned 92. He was also my home room teacher in November '63, the day JFK was shot. I was a sophomore.  We see him at Bill's often. Tomorrow is Father's  Day. We're going to son Jason's house. Hopefully it won't rain so we can have a cookout and play Corn Hole.

On an island on a lake in central NH, it’s been 58 and raining with a stiff breeze from the east almost all day.  We did some Indoor chores, mostly deep cleaning to get ready for summer when it finally arrives.  I built fires in the kitchen wood stove and the fireplace mid afternoon to get the damp out.  

Scored a couple of racks of ribs at the local market on the mainland when we were in town yesterday, put some dry rub on this morning then in my kettle grill for some smoke (rain be darned, had to be done).  Slow oven for a bit and finished on the grill with some customized bbq sauce.  A couple of cocktails and then shared with our neighbors with some rice and veggies for dinner. Currently sitting in front of the fireplace in shorts, Lol.  Pretty nice evening all things considered.  

Let's see. Impromptu visit to my local gun smith this morning.  A car show visit but no photos due to a dead phone.   Stopped by the Army Navy surplus store and scored a cool original M65 jacket.   Been looking for one for a long time as my original one went missing back around 2000 in one of our moves.  Got one with the liner and everything and it is not a reproduction. It is the real deal.  Going to do some trap and skeet tomorrow morning with the Sunday morning group.  Not sure what we are doing after that.  

Got a ton done on our shed, kids and I cheered my wife on at a half marathon, and now we're going to a few fancy night stay (with kids away) to celebrate 3 years together!

And I should mention, my Father's Day gift was tickets for four to see Lyle Lovett at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Providence in late July.  Of course it'll be Annie, me, Jason and DIL Andrea. That'll be fun. My pic from the last time we saw him (City Wine Bar in NYC, May, 2022).

Started the day with brunch and the Eyes On Design car show at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe MI, then went to the in-laws for dinner. The family bought me a GoPro, which is something I've wanted for quite a while. Pix from show:

I did the final wash and wax after paint, cut and buff for the last month and buttoned this thing up and went for a drive :)

I had an awesome weekend at the adventure van expo! Still can't believe I get paid to road trip to camp at a van show and talk about seats! The guy right across from me had a sweet 80's tan/brown high-roof Chevy with LS-swap, 33" tires, and moto carrier on the back; definitely stood out in a sea of Sprinters and Transits! The sunsets were gorgeous, good food shared, plenty of party shenanigans, and I had everything I needed to stay snugly in the Sprinter.

Spending the weekend at Mid-Ohio for SVRA/Trans-Am.  Dodging raindrops and hoping I don't get stuck leaving the campground on Monday.

So far some muddy biking (a week of straight rain here in nc), followed by a cruise along the parkway, and dinner and beers with a friend. Good times.

Tomorrow NVRA @ Talladega short track can't wait...............

So back to Mike Harmuth with the great Spitfire race car at Thompson this weekend (first Spitfire imported into the US in 1963, to Jake Kaplan in Providence, RI, never registered as a road car, prepped for SCCA racing by the legendary Charlie Rainville, always a race car, and a lot of interesting owners over the years. Mike once said it's like George Washington's ax: everything has been replaced over the past sixty years). Anyway, Mike and the Spit will be racing in the Kastner Cup at Road America in three weeks. If you're there, say hi to Mike. 

Spent a lovely week with Hot for Teacher at the beach.  It's a good thing I am kinda anal about turning off my water valve if I'm gone for more than a few days, because I came home to 40 gallons of rusty water heater in my basement.  I can only imagine how many gallons it would have been if I had left the water on.

Old one out, new ball valves installed for in and out, new water heater procured and ready to go in.  My back is a wee bit tender this week so I figured I'd wait for help to actually get it to the basement.

Also, a major shout-out to the previous owner who decided to re-plumb the entire house with PEX.  I bought a water heater, stainless hoses with sharkbite/ball valve on one end and 3/4 FIP on the other.   Sure beats sweating copper.

Yesterday I borrowed a trailer and towed my Sierra Denali over to a friends place where it will spend the rest of its days doing farm stuff. The rockers are now gone and the cab corners are being held together with paint.  At over 400k the driveline is willing but the body is falling apart.  
 

That was a fun adventure. My son had never trailered a car so I showed him how I do it. He was also a huge help loading and unloading as well as being a second set of eyes while backing the trailer up around some rather expensive cars.  

Now I have an empty parking spot and I am thinking Cayman S.  May go look at one today.  The other option is a unknown YMM 911 that is a  complete low millage car less the motor.  The motor was pulled for a race car and never replaced.  Sounds like a possible money pit or it could be a opertunity.  We will see.  

Today I am swapping the rear airbags in my wife's new to her GL450  supposed to be a quick and easy swap.  

Today was a great summer day in Southern New England. Sunny, hot and humid. Some folks will disagree, but that's what I like. We don't get it often enough. Anyway, Annie and I took a drive through the NW RI countryside in the MX-5 at dusk, then had a firepit in the back yard.

Flew from Chicago to Knoxville to buy a used '14 Lexus Camry from my cousin. 

Now I gotta hightail it home as two of us have to work early on Tuesday morning.
