I opened more of the ladies outside space yesterday pretty much tripling it. Just had to remove the temp chicken wire I put up and using it to patch a hole in the chain link fence door at the back of the house.

Today we are doggie proofing and sealing off the main two rooms we use in the house so that they can not be in a tiny enclosure. They are getting big.

Also taking my dad out for lunch.

Yesterday was finishing up the new brakes and wheel bearings on Big Red. Then we used it to preposition some dirt for a culvert we are replacing next weekend.

Today, the Shamrock is getting some love.

Yesterday we went to a local car show/swap meet, prepped Ed Higginbotham's BMW for a race next weekend (he is letting me co-drive) and today I am taking advantage of the cool local weather to go up in the barn and pull Austin Healey parts out for that project to get installed.

And I cleaned up this...

Went to a car show for Fathers' Day with my son, then out for lunch and a beer. We were scheduled to start tearing into his SV1000 front end when we got home, but both ended up taking a nap instead.  Go figure...

I haven't seen any oval track racing in two years. Since I had Sunday off I thought I might head over to Humberstone and watch the sportsman and dirt late models.

As of this year, they're only running specials. And not this weekend :(

Volunteer project to repair one section of one hiking trail washed out after the 2020 Cameron Peak fire (reigning champion of the "Largest Recorded Wildfire in CO History".  Some records should NOT be broken).

Saturday:

  • get only 3hrs of sleep for no good reason, then leave at 6:45am
  • play rally driver for 1hr going up Poudre Canyon, b/c I should have left at 6:15am.  Very much 'play', b/c 1) public roads; 2) unmodified VW TDI with auto trans and 275k miles; 3) the paved highway is no big deal, but the gravel county road is 'really high consequence' if you f'd-up, or meet oncoming traffic that f'd up.  However, there are nice views of some mountains.

WTF is with people paying to do 'crossfit'?!?  Granted, I 'paid' to volunteer via diesel fuel, a stack of pb&j sandwiches, and multiple beverages containing large amounts of caffeine and/or electrolytes.  This project's example of a 'WOD':

  • hike in 1.7mile with 25# pack while carrying 17# rock bar + 5# pick-mattock (Good news: starting elevation is only 8100ft.)
  • find and carry large rocks down a hill, thru a ravine, and back up to the washout formerly known as a trail
  • make large rocks into small rocks w/ sledgehammer (b/c volunteer labor is cheap, and it takes too long to find enough small rocks)
  • repeatedly carry 2x 30# canvas bags of sand/ pea gravel ("mineral soil", which must not contain any plant-derived crap) up out of ravine and dump on trail
  • drink 3 liters of water during the day, but need to pee only once due to sweat and low humidity
  • hike back out 1.7mile (supposedly it is still only 1.7miles, but the uphill sections definitely were NOT there before.  Good news: the pack is lighter due to no more water, and tools are cached along the trail overnight)

Drive back home (frequently under the posted speed limit, b/c very tired), arriving at 6pm.

Sunday: Er, almost exactly the same, except almost zero other cars on the road means the drive to the trail didn't take quite as long.  I don't remember if I've done 2x consecutive days on a project before, but surprisingly I was less dead than I expected.  T-storms at 2:30pm cut the day short (and there was much rejoicing); hiked out with the same effing rock bar and a McLeod.

Rating: 9.5/10, highly recommended.  But don't be an idiot and hike 10miles in 90deg heat on the Thursday before.  Also, expect to move really slowly for quite a while after.

Bro! You're planning to attack a 'yote with a machete?!!? Badass!

We just got back from a family reunion. My parents, all siblings and their kids, and a big rental cabin for 3 days. Went for a little hike until the weather turned, then I started a game of hide and seek for the kids which turned competitive when my siblings joined in and I reminded them that I'm still the king. Also did a 1 off D&D game on the last night. It was fun. And a good gathering since middle bro and his family are moving across the country next week.

Found a free sand filter (like a free BMW) for a large pool in the spring and I've been buying replacement parts to get it ready to use (like a free BMW) on my prehistoric backyard in-ground.  Today it looks complete and ready to fill with sand, so, maybe swim in my own pool?  The liability becomes an asset for a few months?

If you're ever choosing between sand and a comparable media filter, I'd highly recommend sand - CRXPilot, 2022

Honestly, a vanishingly small percent of people would describe me as a bada$$.

Essentially, no sweet spot in the spectrum of weapons was found where 1.  Mrs. RX Reven' doesn't find them to be too violent to be allowed in the house and 2.  Mr. RX Reven' finds them to be sufficiently violent to reliably drop a coyote.

So, here I am with an air horn in a can thingy and an eight dollar HF machete....I am berked.

I missed the thread about this but would very much like to read it.

Also......coyotes are fast and I wouldn't recommend a machete for this

Heading to MId-Ohio this weekend for the vintage grand prix. Should be a lot of fun. That'll be our first trip to a racetrack since the 2020 12 hours of Sebring, and it'll also be our 10-month-old son's first race ever, so we're excited for that.
