Water boils at 212F. Solder melts at 475F or thereabouts depending on type of solder. If all the heat is going to boil water and turn it to steam, the solder won't melt. Clean cut, sand edge of pipe so there is no burrs and install a shark bite fitting. Leave the soldering to the pros.
