Here is a Porsche 906 tail light lens (outer on left and inner on right) that I had printed by Shapeways. The sides on the outer lens are faceted, which can be seen at roughly the 3 o'clock position below. Is there a (easy) way to fix this so it prints nice and smooth? I did not create the file and don't really know CAD-type stuff. I have an .stl file for these parts and have an uninstalled copy of SolidWorks somewhere.

The rendering:

For those of you interested and that might recall my project, these will eventually be molded and then cast in resin for the car.
Do you have the file? Can you share it?
Is the 2nd picture from solid-works, or from the .STL file used to print it. It almost looks like the meshing resolution is just really low.
If that is how its modeled, it can simply be remodeled as a revolved feature and it would eliminate that.
All I have is an .stl file and yes, I could share it. The second pic is from shapeways.
I have a rendering in a 3D pdf and it looks less faceted:

Ask the person who created it to export the .STL file as much higher resolution.
The .stl file is all there is.
Contact me via PM and I can probably help you out. Probably have to remodel it, but can extract most of the geometry from the .STL file.
I could also probably help if ProDarwin can't get to it. I have a copy of SpaceClaim that I can use on it, but the above posters are correct, the STL is just too low of resolution for your purposes. Your rendering shows that it's still low quality, just a prettier picture :)
Sent you both a message. I'm not expecting a solution, but if you feel moved to work on it... Thanks for the input either way!
I do SolidWorks for a living. I can help if the other guys don't get to it.
Acetone on a rag will smooth the texture and faceting on the printed part if that would be acceptable.
