I got to have some fun at the polls today. As we got out of the car to walk to the poling place we were approached by a man who handed us a flyer and said "Would you be interested in how Mrs. XXX would vote in the county commissioner race?"
(Mrs. XXX is a very well respected politician who has been Chairman of the County Comission for the last 8 years by virtue of getting the most votes each time)
I looked at the list and said to my wife loud enough for him to hear "That is those shiny happy people who want to repeal the vote for the Waste to Energy Incinerator"
-
Mrs XXX voted for the WTE when it was passed last year.
-
The man handing out the list was the first name listed and has been leading the opposition to WTE.
-
He didn't have the decency to identify himself and tried to use a well respected person to make his point.
-
The look on his face after my comment was priceless.
My wife was rather angry at me until I explained why I did it.

Gee, I always thought it was those looney conservatives who want to legislate in my bedroom. If liberals are there, too, maybe it's because they want to watch.
Damn those evil voyeurs...
Maybe. Or explain why you need their help to do it.
Ah, finally those capitalist pigs will pay for their crimes, eh? Eh, comrades? Eh?

I don't need help, nor has it been suggested I do.
They are there to learn, not teach.
Damn, a perfectly good joke goes misunderstood. Damn you internets. Oldsaw, I figured you'd like that one, seeing how it was a jab at those meddlin' liberals.
How soon till we see adds proclaiming the other guy is "Climin' in yo window, snatching yo people up?"

Sorry, Tim! Sometimes our internets just fail at recognizing sarcasm.
I blame liberals.......
And Canadians......
Just got back, and I'm not impressed with our new voting machine. Up till now we had the old school cabinet with levers, curtains and the big crank. Now we have a paper ballot that we mark with a little sharpie, and put thrue a scan machine.
Aren't you supposed to use a #2 pencil?
Nooo!
I almost got sucked in again!
Nope, not gonna do it. I can tell you exactly what's wrong with America...
THE RENT IS
TOO
DAMN
HIGH!

I wish, that way I could have erased my mistake, instead I had to get a new ballot
As a karate expert, I will not talk about anyone up here.

We've been using that method for years- and I think it's great.
Note- not only can YOU modify your vote if you use a pencil, so can someone else. Hense the pen.
So you get a paper copy, and quick computer scanning.

I find it interesting that most think the Bostom tea party was by Americans. Wrong. Those people were British subjects/citizens.
Then we have a man running for governor. He is going to cut taxes 10%. Wonder how the legislature feels about that. Then he is going to raise employment by -%.
How, government employees ?
I'm so glad it is over for awhile. Between phone calls and TV adds it makes me sick.

just got back here in MA and its a paper and pencil ballot. iirc just two years ago it was a marker on paper which makes MUCH more sense to me.
I'm with fast eddie. That rent guy has the best facial hair of any (attempted) politician out there.

There weren't a lot of "Americans" in 1773, really But it did help set certain events in motion, and it's probably fair to say that most of the instigators would shortly come to identify themselves as American.

Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife.
No but seriously with the current political climate, I am pretty sure we are all berkeleyed harder then a $1 dollar hooker at a gang bang. It is all down to sound bites. I have this feeling that next election after the Republicans gain control. It will probably end up swinging back left after the Republicans don't do any better then the Democrats. Let's face it no politician is willing spend the time or lose face to the media to come up with a long term fix to many of the problems we face now. Eventually there will come a time when we see how berkeleyed we are.
some thoughts that occured to me while reading this thread:
I know my state senator, nope don't care for him.
A man from my synagogue, whose daughter I went to school with, is petitioning to get on the ballet (sp?) to be our alderman.
A friend of mine is now a legal immigrant who doesn't care for the illegal ones who don't speak english.
No matter who is voted for, chances are you won't like them by reelection time.
More money is spent on their campaign than they will make in their entire term in office (officially).
Thing is, I don't think we're nearly as berkeleyed as some of them lead us to belive. Me, I'm mildly content. But that's not a message that "fires up the base". Would be cool though- "come on folks, everything is reasonably okay ish!"

We, as a nation, are how much in debt and neither side is going to do anything to fix it. That will bite us in the ass one day.

I wouldn't be too surprised. A large block of polled voters in the 2008 election thought Republicans were in control of congress...

people still think obama started the bailouts.
In reply to ignorant:
people think obama started ALL the bailouts.
Fixed that for you. That particular gem of starting activity spreads across administrations.
I think he was in the Congress that did it... so it's true that he started them. The first one just happened to be during the Bush administration. But Congress writes the checks...
And in fact until that Congress started writing the checks, the economy looked pretty good... kinda of the reverse of the awesome "Clinton" economy... which only because good once a GOP Congress took control.
But both parties have been guilty of irresponsible spending... if that's not over now for the GOP they will go down in flames in two more years....
