I just came out of the A&P and a women in her mid 50's was beating my car with her purse. She thought it was her's, and when the buttons didn't work she broke the key off in my door lock. When I pointed out it wasn't her car she remembered she had a Maroon CR-V. I can't for the life of me figure out how she confused it with a black Cavalier but the fact that she did scares me a bit.
Did you help her find her vehicle and then proceed to beat the crap out if it and jamb something in the lock? 'Cause that's what i would have done.
My boss once got totally hammered at a bar, and at the end of the night went to his car to sleep it off. He was surprised to find that the key didn't work, so he proceeded to break into the car. Turns out he confused a red Cherokee for the red Explorer he was driving. Imagine the surprise of the Cherokee owner as he goes to leave the bar, only to find a 250lb biker looking dude passed out in the driver's seat!

Some people shouldn't be out on the streets unsupervised....much less driving a car. Hope she pays for the damage somehow.
Did she say anything apologetic? Offer to pay?
A restaurant in the Outer Banks used to have an old clunker in the parking lot specifically for people to sleep one off in.

Remember its name, or if it's still around?
I'd take your "some people shouldn't have cars" statement and up the ante: some people shouldn't BREED. But who knows, maybe that's just the cynic in me talking.
wow, I have to say that I may not know many things, but I do know the difference between a black Cavalier and a maroon CR-V.
(I know people who walk onto a new car lot and say "what do you have in silver?". I have to imagine she must have been this type of person.)
When I was in college, I gave my friend a ride home after a long night of drinking. I parked in the student lot outside the dorm. He went to get out, and he bumped my door against the car parked next to mine. I told him to be careful, but instead the douche bag proceeded to slam my door into the other car about 5 or 6 more times about as hard as he could, got out and went inside.
I left, and went back to my place, ready to kick his ass the next day for messing my door up a little. That is until lunch the next afternoon when he's telling me about some shiny happy person that mashed the E36 M3 out of the door on his bmw in the student lot outside his dorm... Too much fun helping him remember his blackout from the night before.

You'd be surprised how many people stutter and stammer when I ask them what kind of car they own when they call for help. I realize that they're somewhat put out when they realize they've lost their keys or locked them in the car, but come on people. You paid thousands of dollars for your car, you look at it every day and you can't tell me what you drive when I ask?

I work in a parts store... I get the same thing at least 5 or 6 times a day. I don't get it.
My father did that once. He went up to a silver escort instead of a silver taurus. Thankfully there is no mistaking my car, and not because it's some beeter with a mis-matched body like my first car.

This has never happened to someone with a Car With Character.

Except for maybe a mobile fossilized dung heap.
cant tell you how many times ive broken my aspire key stabbing it into things at the museum.
Lock your car. It helps prevent misunderstandings.
My son and I walked to where we parked the car (the wife's silver Cavalier). He, not a door-locker, hopped in. I went to the driver's side, noted something odd on the way. No Texas Tech Parents sticker on the back window. Wrong Cavalier. Ours was on the other side of the SUV.
I started to laugh when the real owners came up, wondering why he was sitting in their car.
Cavaliers are pretty close to interchangeable, but some people are quite territorial.
Modify your post to say "most people" instead of "some people" and I'll agree with you.

My father's boss traveled on business quite a bit and he would regularly call my father from the airport upon return, so my father could remind him what kind of car he was looking for in the parking lot.
