This weekend was the annual event at Lake Placid, nice weather, warm, leaves turning fast. I didn't take as many pictures as last year.
Thursday was GREAT! Friday good, Saturday, Sunday was scratching for lift. I spent 20 minurtes at 1200 ft. right next to the ski jump, oy. Thhe tourists at the top of the ski jump seemed to like it.
A member who owns an aircraft instrument repair company in Washington state brought a Pipenstrel Taurus. This is a two seat, side-by-side 49:1 glider with auxilary power provided by an electric motor.
This would be seriously handy when navigating between mountains and the silly GPS lady says "Turn left now" and there's a 1,000 ft. ball of dirt in the way.
I'm working it. "Honey, it's for your. We can sit, fly, hold hands and see the pretty leaves".
Tough sell, still working .....

Ohhhhhh, I would really like to have one of those. Dunno if I could get SWMBO up in it, though. She doesn't even like riding in the Miata when driven in anger.
And if you were suck on the ground....

Wait... now... if you take that idea... a sail plane with a motorized propeller... thinking, thinking...

Boring? I could do some things in a 172 that would make you poop yourself.
Probably. I don't have a powered craft for a reason.

In reply to Duke:
stall practice is required

Spins are usually enough for the uninitiated.
That's ubber cool. What is the price tag? I got my wife a glider lesson about 15 years ago for a birthday present she loved it. we were BS'ing about lottery winning the other day and I said it would be great to be able to pop up to Mackinac island for lunch in a plane, she jumped in that she prefers gliding to power flight because of the peace and quiet.
