When I was in the service you could spot the VRB Cars a mile away. (Variable Reenlistment Bonus) They were the impractical plum crazy colored 'Cuda, hot pink AMX or lime green road Runners.
I don't have numbers, but I hear reenlistment cash now is pretty big.

15k is about what a e4 in the army will get for a 6 year re-up , 22k+ for E6 going indef (re-enlist till retirement 
)
