The number of cars on rust belt craigslist that hail from california, arizona, nevada, etc. Really? Actually, now that I think about it it's always from California or Arizona.

I find this mildly suspicious.

There is a 350Z on Miami CL now. Claims location is Miami. Photos show mountains in the background and claim the car is garaged in the winter. Suuure.

I think the 350Z is the most often used car in Craigslist scams. There are usually a couple of them on the Minneapolis CL every day, always for sale for $4900.

Well, if it's, say, an '87 and it was registered from '87 to '89 in California, it will forever be a "California car" in the for sale ads, nevermind that it's been rotting away up here for 20 years :).

Yep, that's the Z car. I think I'll mess with him a bit. Film at 11:00.

OK, just sent an inquiry about the Z car. The clown has it listed 5 times on Miami CL! "Like the car, like the price, cash in my pocket. Where can I see it? CW". It is guaranteed that it is not available to see for some BS reason. And he will want a Western Union payment, and some greedy and stupid people will make him a rich Nigerian.

Just messing around (Hey, I do have work to do!) I checked a few other CLs. Amazing. The car car is listed 12 times in Philly, 4 in Atlanta, 2 in Seattle, 4 in San Diego! This guy is hard core!

I got into a pretty heated debate when I called a guy who listed a decent enough Duster claiming it was ...and I quote "never once was driven in the snow, NEVER". The pic in the listing shwed it parked on the snow, but it was obvious it was only pulled out to snap the shots and list it. Well I called, and asked if he was sure it never saw snow cuz there was snow in the pic ( I was really a turd when I was a teen). We got into a shouting match yyadda yaddah. I was calling from work - Valvoline - and he saw this on the caller ID and asked my name and said he was gonna come down there and kick my a$$. I told him my name was insert my crappymanagersname here. It was funny cuz I left 2 minutes after I hung up, but I guess the guy came down in said Duster and yelled at my MGR, who, Incidentally, hated Mopar to the point where he would pick fights with people over it. I wish I woulda been there, but I was pretty sure I woulda been fired over it

Well, here is the first response back from the scammer. Bastard claims to be a US soldier!! "I'm an US Air Force Tech. Sgt. currently stationed in the United Kingdom. The car is here with me. It was bought in the US and shipped to Europe, but it was never permanently registered here, the car is still registered in the US.The car is for sale locally as well, but there are slim chances of this to happen. In order to be able to register this car here in the UK the buyer would have to pay very high import/custom taxes that will double the price. So I decided to sell the car back in the US.

The price is $4,890.00 including shipping from the UK to the US and delivery to your home address."
Anybody want to guess what the actual cost would be to ship from UK to SoFla? More to follow.

Recieved this morning- "Hi,

I will have the car shipped from UK by an US Air Force cargo plane so there won't be any additional shipping costs. Also I will arrange for a truck to transport the car to your home address or, if you like, you can pick it up from the nearest airport in your area. The shipping will take 6-8 days, depending on your location.Shipping will be door to door,to your home address, somebody must be home when the car arrives to sign for the reception. The car will arrive with all the papers and documents required for registration and the keys. The clear title and the bill of sale will be already signed by me.

The payment will be done through eBay.You will send the money to eBay and as soon as the payment is confirmed they will notify me to proceed with the shipping. I will ship the car, you will receive it and you will have 5 days for inspection, both the car and the paperwork and the option to accept or reject the car.The inspection time period will begin as soon as you sign for receiving the car at your requested address.During all this time eBay will hold the money into a trust account. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the car before decided to buy it.If you are satisfied with the car and decide to keep it you inform eBay about this and they will release the money to me. If the car is not as advertised and decide not to keep it eBay will refund you the money, no questions asked, and shipping back the car will be my concern. I think this is more than fair for the both of us.Please take into consideration that I will get paid only after you receive the car and make sure everything is as agreed.

If you agree with these terms and you have the money, send me your full name and the address where you want the car to be delivered to and I will initiate the transaction with eBay. You will receive all the transaction details from them.

I will appreciate an answer as soon as possible.

Thank you Dennis"

They make it sound so safe and easy.

You will also note that this was written by someone that speaks English well. No grammer errors, no misspellings. Unusual for these scams.

Ha! This is all so true. I put my Mazda 3 up for sale/trade the other day. I'm in new england, and everyone who wants to offer me a trade says the car is a southern or california car! I followed up on one MGB that a guy offered me and the car has been in up here for 17 years?!

If the car were really being shipped on a US Air Force cargo plane wouldn't you have to go to an air force base to pick it up?

First off, servicemen can get cars shipped for free, but there are a lot of restrictions. They go by boat, not air. The whole thing is geared towards gullible, greedy, people that are blind to the fact somebody is stealing from them. This guy is playing a numbers game- put it out there enough, some sucker will fall for it. I would imagine that it has to be possible to track them down, but that does not seem to be happening.
