Well... My friend the OT says that I tore a ligament in my foot... Dr. says.. yeah.. you need to see an orthopedic foot guy... the appointment is on the 24th.
Until then.. if you see a middle aged guy hobbling around. Give me a wave.. Stupid flat feet.
Ouch!
Last weekend my Achilles was inflamed and causing me to hobble around. An autocross buddy was hobbling on the same side and when asked? He'd been painting a room for a customer. Took off his shoes to step up on the couch. Hoped off the couch and found the toothpick hidden in the shag carpet. He said it felt like getting bit by a snake.
(Take away lesson btw: puncture wounds want antibiotics. Don't ignore them or you may regret your choices)
Ive spent the last 10 years with doctors failing to figure out my foot pain. So goodluck, i hobble alot of days.

how did the ligament tear happen?
that just sounds painful, bad feet makes for a miserable day
good luck
I can't wave, because I berkeleyed up my shoulder trying to bench my weight without sufficient warm-up. 6 months ago.

What ligament?
Achilles tendinitis responds well to ice, use a heel lift while rehabbing it, stretch gently. If it is sore a few inches above where it attaches and is thickened, worry about a rupture and take it easy.
So good news. No torn anything. Just a really angry case of metatarsaliga. A week in a boot, some rest, stretching, and modification of insoles is the prescription.
Let's see how it goes.

Just remember the best path to rehabilitation is to put your best foot forward.

And people wonder why I spend cubic money on shoes. My feet are awful, having broken them 4 different times. I hobble like I'm 90 on my good days.
Prescription, fitted insoles can get pretty berkeleying pricey. Mine were CF, cost $350, insurance didn't cover 'em and they hurt like hell. I did much better w/ Scholl's arch supports in all my shoes for < $50 ea. I'm a 440.
Good luck.
I have custom arch supports that I did get my insurance to cover, but yeah, they would have been $300-$400 out of pocket.
Broke both of my feet and had both of them surgically rebuilt and fused, so I don't mess around with my shoes either.

Superfeet insoles are the droid you are looking for.
Stretching the Achilles and a pad just proximal to the metatarsal heads will do the trick. Pad should be on the bottom side of the insole so it does not migrate. Mark tender spot on bottom of foot with grease or lipstick, step on insole to transfer the mark, apply the pad. Ice would be a good idea too

While you're laid up you might as well search CL for some impulse buys.

Do the stretches for the Achilles, with the knee straight and bent, until you are tired of your foot not hurting. Symptoms will return when you stop doing the stretches.

He is talking about metatarsalgia though. I typically treat Achilles tendinitis or retrocalcaneal bursitis with lifts and ice to get them over the acute stages, then address the equinus that is invariably present. I think I will hold off on recommending your TB 500 until I see some studies on it.

Problem with what you suggest is that the extensor muscles are so much weaker than the flexors. I think you may find that if you take an old belt or a short length of rope and passively dorsiflex the foot you will find you have more success.
I have only been in practice since 1993, but it certainly seems that the gastro-soleus(primarily gastroc in my experience) complex being tight contributes to a lot of problems. For example, I have never, NEVER seen a Charcot deformity or plantar fasciitis in someone unless they have a tight triceps surae. Just sayin'

Stretch out strap. Always have one around.
