If you're gonna put c notes and a good amp on it, let me help the scope creep...

For sound bars I have two. One in the family room. It is a Samsung. I have a record player attached to it. The best I can say about it is that it is fine.

My wife picked up a Bose from Costco that is used upstairs in the living room with the Tv and again it is fine for what it is used for.

The Samsung has better range and a fuller sound but if I remember it was $280 ish at micro center.  The Bose was about $150 or so from Costco.

The Samsung is not $130 better than the Bose.

Size wise the Samsung is probably 50% longer and 2x as deep.

In reply to flat4_5spd :

I just got a pair of R1280t's a few weeks ago from a gift card. Haven't opened the box yet! I suppose I'll have to test them out and report.

I can report, they're not half bad. For a theater experience, one would definitely want a sub.

I hit up diyaudio forums to ask about an amp I could use to hack as a new plate amp.  Hoping for 50wrms x 2 and 100wrms sub with an adjustable crossover freq.

I took it apart and tried it again today to see if anything was getting hot/smoking, but no dice.  Sound just comes and goes, and when it's gone, there is a clicking that seems to be clipping.  I can watch the screen and see someone's mouth yelling, or a glass break, or an explosion, and it corresponds with the clicks.

So I went all in and stripped the guts off the plate.

So, I watched some TV and listened to some Reggae last night with just the c-notes.  I came to realize just how little my sub is adding to the equation.

I think I'll be plate-amping the c-notes and calling it good enough for the RV.  If I want to add the sub back in later, I can do one of those crossovers to split the signal and add a plate amp on the sub.
