Oh, so I have to own a hand-built Italian V12 to attract women. That's a lot of use.

And the Lambo should have won hands down, what are those women thinking? Maybe they can judge the quality (and therefore expense) of a car by the sound I know I can, but a nasty Caparo T1 is still one of my top favorites!

I found it interesting that the Ferrari didn't win...

I wonder exactly which Ferrari/Lambo/Maserati engines they used.

And why no pushrod V8 or rotary or even a high-strung 4-cylinder?

Probably because it is their test and that was what they wanted to use. Feel free to run the test yourself with your own set of engines. We'll wait for the results.

When we were dating, my wife loved the 3 inch dual exhaust on my Chevy shortbed 4x4. Years later I got the chance to drive her in a few Ferraris. The 355 Spyder she liked, but she hated the 360 Modena. She decided it was just too much of an assult on the senses.

Let's see... I have a Flowmaster-equipped V8, a carb'd rotary, and a pushrod V6 here. Neighbor has a classic nailhead V8, John has an LSx and another (louder) rotary. Anybody have some test equipment and/or a V12?

Yeah, they left that part of the engine sound equation out, didn't they?

What if you parked 4 Geo Metro's nose to nose and revved them all at once?

I think you'd be a genius for getting 4 Geo Metro's all running at the same time!

It's nice to know that three inches of something can impress a woman.

The sound of money aside, I got pretty excited when Jeremy Clarkson was driving the Mercedes SLR Mclaren coupe on Top Gear. THAT thing is sex on wheels, and no, I'm not talking about Jeremy.

the DOHC 4 valve 4.6 does sound quite nice. However, there is no engine noise nicer than an ALMS corvette GT1 car! GRRRR.

a rally subaru flat 4 with supertrapps is a pretty close second.

I'd say the right sports car engines can arouse men too. Miata engines will arouse a 'different' sort of man though.

whatever happened to slipping a few drops of "spanish fly" into her drink? it would be cheaper than a lambo.

Ever heard a grid full of V10 F1 cars at umpteen thousand RPM just before the start (live and in person)? Makes a C5R/C6R Corvette sound sort of weak (although I would give it a place in the top 5).

And with that the old Corvair story popped into my mind

Nothing sounds quite as pretty as an F1 engine revving out in all its maddness. But that doesn't count since most women have no idea what an F1 is.

Somebody mentioned Subaru 4 cylinders. Ahhhhh. That's got to be one of the best-sounding 4 bangers out there. Something about the way that uneven-length exhaust makes the engine sound like it just needs to rev higher and higher and higher to "clear up". It's similar, to me at least, to the way a Harley Davidson engine sounds - they make me want to crack the throttle open and rev the crap out of them.

Do too. That's the key just to the left of F2

I can't stand that Subaru flat 4 sound. I don't care much for the sound of most Porsches either.

I think it sounds like somebody using an impact wrench to spin a can of gravel.

I won't knock their performance. But the aesthetics are lacking.

For aesthetic sounds, I'll take a BMW Strait-6 any day.
