On my way to work, had to take a second glance. At first, thought it was a Smart car from a distance, but at second glance, total 500. Its a little bit bigger than a Smart, smaller than a Mini. IT IS AWESOME!

I really can't wait for these to start popping up at the Chrysler dealers. I really want to test drive one.

Saw one at the auto show. I was underwhelmed. It should not have been parked across from the Lamborghinis.

I cannot wait to see these buggers in action. I am generally against new car purchases.. but I may need to make an exception

Hmm, starting around $15k, not bad. Or it will be once the "OMG NEW CAR" selling well over list passes.

And no Abarth, yet.

I've never seen a single automobile take a country by storm like the new 500 did Italy. I was there the week before it was released to the public and it was all anyone talked about. A year later it seemed every third car was a 500 and even my decidely non-car relatives were saving up for one.

Frankly I much prefer the way the (Euro spec) Fiesta drives, but the 500 was much more iconic and a fun driver, even in base form (which there costs 10k Euro).

For use in the US I'd definitely want the more powerful Abarth version and that's what I'm waiting on... though if Ford would release either a 2dr hatch Fiesta or a manual TD model here I could be tempted away by that...

I sat in one at the Grand Rapids car show. Surprisingly good fit. Clutch/brake/gas had a nice feel, shift knob placement was wonderful.

Too bad the only dealership in Michigan is in Detroit. But, I see myself buying one after the novelty wears off and the price drops to $5K or so.

The 500 is the only new car that I REALLY want.....and afford haha I fell in love ever since I saw Jezza test it on Top Gear the episode is a few years back. It's just so awesome, because not only does it look right, it's the perfect size, what the new Mini should be. I can't wait to see the Dodge dealers have these in, hopefully the mechanics will learn Italian.

Ford comes out with an RS version of the Fiesta then maybe but just like every hot ford, we will never get it so, no hope on that

When the Abarth comes I'll be trading in my Legacy GT if it's any good to drive at all.

One review I read said with the Americanization they had to do to it a 6'2" driver will rub his head hard against the headliner. I'm 6'2" and long in the torso = 500 FAIL, but I'll still see myself when they hit local dealers.

In reply to pigeon:

I am 6'2" myself, but most the American reviews I read say that a 6'3" person could be comfortable in the front seat. But, I will have to wait and see as well.

I will have a very, very hard time not buying an Abarth Esse Esse...

On the other hand, if the 695 Tributo Ferrari came here I would probably pee myself and then break my own manual-trans only rule, immediately buy one, and then figure out how to hide it from my wife.

Necrothread! I stopped into the local Dodge/Chrysler/Fiat dealer today around noon and spent 10 minutes poking around the red 500 they had buried in the back of the showroom, practically in the middle of the service waiting area. I was completely ignored by the sales staff. Anyway, my head rubs the headliner so that's that. It seemed to be a decent small car, if (a) I fit and (b) I was in the market for a brand new small car I'd prefer the styling over the Fit. It's bigger inside than a Mini, which really isn't so Mini, so I don't know that I'd even cross-shop them. They had probably 20 or so on the lot in a variety of colors so if you must have one give Doan Fiat in Rochester a call.

Someone around me already daily drives a 500. Probably a Chrysler employee.

Your head rubs the headliner? Man, how tall are you? I'm 6' and had massive amounts of head room.

Maybe the seat raises up and it was at it's highest level?

It probably drives like crap and the plain model is, well, plain, but I've got to see and drive the Abarth version.

I'm 6'2" and it's more in the torso than the legs. I couldn't figure the seat adjuster out so I guess it's possible that it goes down a bit but since I was ignored... Maybe I'll try again once the Abarths hit our shores.

My father-in-law hits his head in damn near everything. And he's not much over 6'. He just has tons of torso and stumpy legs like a gorilla.

He worked for GM, and eventually got a note from his Dr so that GM would stop giving him cars to drive around when they needed miles put on them because he didn't fit in basically any of them.
