I got turned on to ADV Rider last winter, and i do not even own a bike (never have.) I think I picked it up from here on GRM.
Some of my favorites are:
Boston to Denver for Christmas... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=295681&highlight=christmas+boston
Detroit to San Diego, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Negligence http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265019&highlight=diego+detroit This guy is GRM all the way!
Some of these read almost like novels (alright, crappy novels) but they are still good. My only wish is that there was a way to skip all the banter and BS inputs and just filter it to read the entries from the main character.
Gameboy, I truely promise you, your day (maybe week) is shot. Expect the urge to buy a motorcycle and travel.
Ohh no.. this is too good.
Must not buy dual sport.
No motorcycles for me. No nooonononononononoonnononono

Damn right you evil bastard!
What's not to love about a bike that looks like this?
And the quote, "It was Hondas answer to a question no one in the 1990s was asking."
what is that? I saw one in central VA over the weekend. Looks like the bastard spawn of a Goldwing and a Kymco scooter.
The "factory" PC 800 didn't look like that bike. If I remember right, the color was a sort of creme/beige. It appeared to be marketed to folks who wanted an affordable alternative to the Gold Wing. I don't rmember ANY cycle mag doing a real road test of one, either.

No wonder nobody wanted it, that thing's less than a quarter the size of a Goldwing.
Heck it doesn't even come with an inflatable butt.

(Don't know how that moved from GRM to CMS forums)
If I remember correctly, THE selling points for the PC were it's huge trunk and bigger than a moped twin cylinder engine. If that doesn't sound like a G W wannabe, I don't know what does. BTW, Honda once sold a smallish bike called a Silver Wing, I don't think the name and styling resemblance to this bigger bike (the G W) was accidental.
Here is the Pacific Coast 800 aka The Tuperware Torpedo. As the article states, "Born to be Mild" or "The stationwagon of motorcycles"

dang..
just when i thought i had moved past the urge to fly out to colorado and take my uncle up on his offer of his old bike and ride it back (to western maryland!)
i dont need a bike.. i dont need a bike.. i dont need a bike...
that said.. how bad would the trip from colorado to maryland be on a 83 honda cb1000c with a vetter fairing? riders experience is entirely composed of mopeds btw.. (i have a feeling the moped comment rules the whole idea out)
If that's a CBX (the 6 cylinder bike) that's one seriously cool scoot! It's a big bike, so you'd probably want to take a couple weeks off to learn how to ride it before striking out.
One of my co workers said he has been offered a '81 Yamaha twin for free. It sounds like it might be an XS650, which I have always liked. I keep telling myself 'no street bikes', but... And as if I needed any more goading, check this site out.

no, it was a one year only special.. the 83 CB1000c is a in line 4 (last of the in line 4's) with a odd split transmission (kinda a seperate overdrive kinda thing)
http://cbcustom.freeservers.com/specs831000c.htm
89hp 60lb-ft torque 610lb bike..
as for my riding experience.. i have 2 of these i just dont have the speed or power to go outside of a certian range locally (im in the mountians and cant go up hills very well) and think ill get nailed putting along on the side of a road going uphill at under 20mph (it can go 35mph on a level surface) ridden since i was 15 (23 now) and did lay one down once, so i learned a hard lesson on pain. (some of the reason i keep trying to convince myself i dont want a bike, im worried about someone hitting me knowing how much pain comes from just laying something down at 35mph)
i guess i keep trying to talk myself out of getting anything bigger... what i have i cant really ride anywhere practically locally (though i do enjoy them) and i do miss going for longer rides (In ohio i would take the moped out for a 40-50 mile ride on a nice saturday with some regularity)

The original Silver Wing (81-84) was an evolution of Honda's 78-83 CX 500. It had a "flying" V-Twin, like a Guzzi, water cooling and shaft drive. CX500's were common but Silver Wings were not. They were later available as a 650.

A friend with a Gold Wing bought a Silver Wing for his wife when she got tired of riding on the back of his bike. I think this was common practice. They were lighter than a Gold Wing, pretty much a CX500 with hard luggage.
Honda's current Silver Wing is a 600cc scooter.
