It is coming from the left side of the car, although I unfortunately cannot tell front or back. Near as I can tell, it started on Thursday when on an on ramp, although it was just a small squeak then. I didn't hear it again Thursday or Friday, and on Saturday went to an autocross. I did notice it that morning, but again it was not very loud. I probably should have had a mechanic listen to it then.

During the autocross, which was very left-hand turn intensive, I did not notice it once.

It was not there when I drove from the autocross site to the highway, but when I got into my parking garage, it was back and had turned into a real bad squeak that is bordering a screech. It goes away if I apply the brakes, but not when slowing down otherwise. If I keep my foot on the brake and accelerator, to keep a constant speed, it is not there.

Any ideas? If it matters, the brake pads need to be replaced soon, and rotors probably do as well. FM springs, koni shocks, FM sway bars.

Oops, meant to put this in the motorsports section.

From my experience that's usually caused by wheel bearing slack or brake pads that aren't being pulled back as much as when the calipers were new or a combination of both. The condition of the pads were at least temporarily altered by the autocross also.

The calipers most definitely are not new, but I'm hoping that because of it disappearing under braking that this is the case. I have year long tech, so I didn't tech the car, but I was worried about it so grabbed the wheels and shook them to see if anything felt amiss. They felt the same as every single Miata I've ever teched, so I don't think it is the wheel bearings.

Luckily I don't have to drive anywhere for two weeks, I'm going to try to find the funds to get new pads and rotors.

Either that or a pebble in it. That's where I'd start.
