Having just spent quite a bit of money to shore up our house due to attic intrusions by these little bastards, I'm thinking about stepping up my game with a pellet gun. Presumably, many of you will tell me I need something stronger, but, the nature of the housing subdivision I live in precludes anything beyond a pellet gun.

That said, what kind of pellet gun should I buy? I haven't owned one since I was a kid and need pointers.

TIA.

I shoot this in my basement using pennies as targets. Dimes got too expensive. The first time that I tried to plink a squirrel off the bird feeder, it left an exit wound.

A one pump pellet gun should do. I sell one for $90 that is simple and not fancy. I don't know what brand it is, but it should take out a rodent with a body shot.

Do you have a dog? My dog catches rodents and gives them to me as a present.

I had a squirrel problem with them getting my shop. Went to Wal-Mart and bought the cheap $98.00 Crossman Fury II Blackout .177 Cal Break barrel Rifle. It is a bad squirrel killin mofo. Rifled barrel, 1,200 fps with lead-free pellets, scope, etc.

I've killed squirrels with a paintball gun with the regulator turned up to full blast.

You'll want something with a nice heavy barrel for greater accuracy. I like the looks of this one: http://www.airgundepot.com/392.html

Pellet gun works, feeding the biggest farm cat you can find bottom shelf cat food works better.

I have the .20 silver streak version of that same rifle. Impressive and accurate.

Check these guys out: http://www.gamousa.com/family.aspx?familyID=37

A couple of these were sent to our company CEO (we make a line of hunting scent covers) after he met the distributor at a show. I haven't fired one but they were very impressively made, and the CEO and his son were ape E36 M3 about them after some field tests.

Any air gun you can hog hunt with has got to be a bad ass weapon.

My old Crossman 400 CO2 gun has been fine, over 30 years old too, kills rabbits n that.

Why am I suddenly compelled to go to WM now. Damn you guys.

I suppose nailing a rat trap to a tree would probably work too.

I send the cats up into the attic a couple of times a week. Seems to have scared the little bastards off - god they make one hell of a mess. How can something so small scatter books and boxes all over the bloody place?

Stick a cheap transistor radio up there, have it plugged in to a timer set to come on every day for a few hours and tuned to the local Mexican radio station at full volume.

Apparently they don't like it and leave on their own. Supposedly worked for my neighbor.

Sypercat's Youtube Videos made me want a Weihrauch, but then I found pricing for them and changed my mind.

Gamo or Benjamin would probably be my choices. A good friend of mine had a pump action Benjamin pistol that was sufficient for Squirrel eradication.

As a youth I hunted squirrel with Marksman Biathlon Trainer, it doesn't take much to kill a squirrel.

I found that for other slightly larger feral pests that needed managing the Marksman wasn't as efficient, but a Marlin 60 will shoot and if clean cycle .22 shorts, which are a much more humane means of eradication with limited over penetration risk.

Regardless, practice, shot placement, even though they're vermin and a nuisance there's no sense in making them suffer unnecessarily.

Daisy 880 bb/pellet gun.

Used one of those for about a decade or more till I broke it over someone's car trunk... It was either that, or shooting them with it. LOL The former didn't have any legal consequences.

Get a Maine Coon that knows how to hunt. It'll clear attics and the area surrounding the house of squirrels, baby bunnies and partridges fairly quickly in between naps.

I had one of those. Pretty good trainer for the price. It now has a red dot sight and lives at my son's place.

To stay under the radar, think about the velocity of the fancier air rifles. If it's supersonic (around 1100 fps depending ...) it'll have a "crack" in the report that gets attention. A little less power might be less effective, but might avoid some unpleasant encounters with the local constabulary.

if you are in NJ.. you can't use any of them without a firearms permit.

Yes, a pump action BB gun is considered a firearm in the Garden state
