I'm headed there next week. SWMBO has a couple of college friends in Colombo and we are headed to Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks. Other than Colombo Night Races, Tamil Tigers, and curry I don't know a whole lot about the country. I think there is a loose plan of head north on a train and avoid land mines left from the previous war.
Anyone been through here in recent history?

That will be difficult because I am fairly pale and never leave home without my cowboy hat haha.
I appreciate the advice but this is more of a grassroots type of trip, backpacks, dirt, and trains. So I'm sure we will be sticking out where ever we go. I have heard the southwest part of the island has some nice resorts and surfing though.

I did see that there was a No Reservations episode in Sri Lanka but all the versions I found online are blocked in the US for some reason.

Done and done. I have a month or so worth of beard I probably won't shave. I also just found out it's going to be cooler (50's) up in the mountains so I don't think I will be shaving it. I originally thought it was going to be high 80's and humid for the whole trip.

WHOA! That episode is 18 years old, I vaguely remember it. I had forgotten how long it's been on the air.
On the bright side, I won't be going to southern Sri Lanka so I should be ok. But I should probably rewatch that one to be on the safe side though.
