Background: We have been married 22 years. I am tired of getting her Jewelry that she doesn't wear. She already owns every piece of cooking appliance and hardware she will ever need. We already have updated appliances (washer dryer, kitchen, everything) She has a Mini Van she loves. she has an iphone 4s, and doesn't want the 5. Lingerie? Please, we have drawers full of it...
What are you getting your wife?
I have tried the "you have everything so I got you nothing" in the past, that doesn't work out so well.
We agreed to get each other one small item. She wants an Apple Shuffle for her workouts. That's it.
We also lightened up with our kids. Simplicity this year.
She wanted a Kindle of some sorts, so I ordered whichever one it was.
I know a couple who have a unique gift-giving routine. Rather than stress over it all, they just go buy whatever they want for themselves, wrap it, and put their spouse's name on it. :D
They also do that for birthdays too.

We rescued a pit bull in September, she loves that damn dog (& I think she's pretty cool too.)
A car club friend's girlfriend is an artist & she did a water color of the dog. I cannot wait till Xmas to hand it over!
(So, to your request, any special pets?)

We have a cocker that pees on everything....
How about getting her something consumable? Last year, I got a gift cert to a spa for a massage, manicure, pedicure, etc. She was still talking about it in the summer.
I got my wife a new wedding band (requested, Titanium) and a new wallet, her old one was falling apart. Anything more than that and I would be in trouble.
Does she like music or plays? Get her tickets to something that you two can go to together. Or maybe if you think she would prefer to take a friend. My parents have gotten to the point where they have everything and are looking for experiential gifts now. My mom got tickets to some play for her birthday. Best part. You can order online and if they aren't here yet just print out the confirmation or a note describing the gift.
Ditto on some upcoming artsy thing or a spa day...
As for my wife, nothing but body sprays from Victoria's Secret. We be past broke on this Christmas go round....
As some others replied: Experiences are a really good thing to give. Think hard to get concert tickets to a show she really wants to see.
A really good choice would be for you to plan a getaway trip for both of you. If you go this route, it's very important that you (notice the emphasis) make all the arrangements and plans, so she can just enjoy the trip. Go somewhere she's really wanted to go and never been. Plan things that she would like to do.
Cruise tickets are a nice surprise if neither of you have been on one. The food is great and some of the excursions are really cool, if pricey.
Good luck, you're running out of time...
I went to a local hair supply dealer and loaded up with nail files / cocoa butters / bath supplies / massage oil . We just bought a massage table . She just won a pair of gold/pearl earrings so basically off the hook . Skull vodka

This is my gift this year

Swap Volvo for Mini Van and we're married to the same woman (for the same amount of time), although mine wears the jewelry.
Spa certificates, show tickets and splurge opportunities are safe bets.
I get her high quality athletic shoes every year, because she wears them out and is too thrifty to by them for herself. I also get her a Southern Living annual cookbook every year. A fuzzy spa robe, some stocking stuffer kitchen gadgets and travel accessories round things out.
Mrs. BDT loves movies, so this year she's getting a PS3 so she can stream Netflix.
(I'll wait for an appropriate amount of time to elapse before snagging GT5)
I made her make me a big list so that I could choose a few items from it.
She gets what she wants, but doesn't know exactly what shes getting and I don't waste my money.

I went with the spa, got a gift certificate to B.J. Grand here in town. Also got some dark chocolate.
Thanks!
The spa it turns out, is only a half a mile from my house, who know?

One reason for our simplicity is we are paying cash for everything as we go. No credit cards or skimming off our savings.

That's basically what my g/f does as well, although her lists tend to be so short I often end up getting everything on it. Since her birthday is the 19th, the "surprise" is what from the list will be given on that day. This year it was custom floor mats for her Volvo...
My mother (and her parents) are the really hard ones. For my mother I've been giving her parts of a hand painted (by me) nativity. Unfortunately, all of the damn house and car work this year killed my free time.
I got my wife a new Nerf gun (she likes to sneak up and shoot people when they are not looking) and tickets to see Sebastian Bach in concert. She also bought some horse tack thing that she said is from me. Yep. Shes a lucky lady.
Chicks love the spa, dinner in a high end place, or tickets to some kind of fancy outing. I don't think you can go wrong there.
I'm getting my wife an X box 360 and some new hiking boots
Jewlery, she likes southwestern silver. We agreed (after 34 years) to cut the budget down and use the unspent money on a weekend away.

Waitwaitwait, is that for you or for HER?
Mrs RMD got a new bike this past summer. So, she's getting highway peg mounts, heated grips and mufflers.
