The wife and I have friends and family in the St. Louis area and apparently the rioting is pretty bad right now.
Sperlo?
Alex?
There are quite few others that are slipping my mind at the moment.

We heard the worst of it was yesterday but there is still a mob on foot that is causing trouble and causing the police to advise people to stay put in their homes unless it is an absolute necessity to leave.
Spoke with sperlo on the book of faces this evening and he was fine when I talked to him, still at work though. I think he made it home fine. He said he didnt have to get to close to the action
Yea. All good. Thanks guys. Came across some looters cruising the area on the way home. I'm far enough away that my area is safe. The direct drive home was busy for 10 pm and my city's police have been out in force not only in our city, but in Ferguson.
Any injuries have been minor and there have been few. Local businesses are the big losers here.

Kid attacks a cop and gets shot
I know, let's rob convenience stores to show them who is boss!
I am glad the GRMers are OK, sad for humanity.
From CNN:
"Without revealing what led to the dispute, Belmar said the preliminary investigation showed that the Ferguson officer tried to exit his vehicle, but Brown pushed him back into the car, "where he physically assaulted the police officer" and struggled over the officer's weapon, Belmar said. A shot was fired inside the police car, and Brown was eventually shot about 35 feet away from the vehicle, Belmar said. He didn't explain how Brown got so far away from the car or whether he was surrendering. He said he was declining to disclose certain details because he didn't want to "prejudice" the case."
Kinda brings up another thing, when will get 360 degree cameras for inside police cars?
Or wearable cameras for police officers?
Violent Rioting is dumb.
The wearable cameras arrived in the mail a few days before this all happened.
EDIT: Also, Alex has been active on FB. We're all watching things closely in Ferguson.

same here, close enough to the Galleria (mall) that all my neighbors were getting a little scared the "looting was coming"
People are berkeleying stupid.
It's all OK now. They just declared a No Fly Zone over Ferguson.

Anonymous started releasing addresses of police officers. The first one within a mile of my house. Not good for this hood. Talk about gasoline on a fire. Lets just spread the violence wherever we can...
Police are staging in Ferguson again. I fully support non-violent protestors, but once a rock is thrown, I no longer support that group.

Now see, that's berkeleyed up. Even IF the kid wasn't s'posed to be shot, and even IF Ferguson was TOTALLY overblown- how are you gonna punish an entire load of innocent cops for something a handful of them went and did? Internet you stupid. I thought it was bad when a COP got shot up here a few weeks ago. I don't even want to know what you people are dealing with right now.
I had heard that parts of East St. Louis were bad, but this is like close to the Lotus dealership.
If I understand this (and I ain't an esquire,) the young man was attacking the cop. Most cops shot in the line of duty are shot with their own guns. In any fight that involves an armed person and an unarmed person, the unarmed person is considered to have access to the armed person's gun and thus considered armed. So, if you don't want to get shot, don't attack armed people. And attacking cops is probably not a good idea at any time.

Yeah, if the story is true, the kid quite frankly deserved to be shot..... I learned a long time ago not to berkeley with cops. No matter what, they're gonna win on the street. Only chance I have is in front of a judge.
Oh, hey. Thanks for thinking of me. All's well in my neck of the woods; we're a good 15+ miles south of the drama. Sperlo's uncomfortably close up there, and I hope (and trust) he has his E36 M3 squared away.
Without going into too much political detail (see my FB posts for that) and not to put too fine a point on it: E36 M3 is berkeleyed. I love St. Louis deeply, but my city has major issues that the vast majority of us try to ignore either consciously or institutionally, and this unspeakably, tragically terrible event seems to be the spark over the powderkeg.
I went to one protest/demonstration today, and I'll likely go to more. Something has to change.
All good tonight. Anom has actually been releasing info of officers in no way involved. In fact tonight it was bad info, but put my house within blocks of the old address of a police chief.
As for the situation involving the shooting, it is berkeleyed up either way you look at it. I have to put myself in the shoes of the officer and things don't match up. This "good kid" he shot sounds like he may not have been so good. Either way is a bad situation. Things look ok tonight, but racial and personal issues are starting to come up. Person on person crime will increase tonight (because police are otherwise occupied), so I'll be glad I'm a few miles away.
Goodnight guys.

Yep we went over that in my ccw class. If they are physicallyable to get to you they can get your gun. If they know you are armed and keep coming they are then considered a potentially armed threat and you are within your right to protect yourself. They can be empty handed during this time as the threat is them taking your weapon to use on you. The statistic back up the idea of it being a viable threat as well.
Stay safe down there folks. Keep your head on a swivel. You never know when you will go around a corner and find yourself in a bad situation.
So my wife wants to go swimming today. Swimming entails going to her parent's house. Last night a girl was shot in the head a house or two down, but is doing fine. I can't say I'm too comfortable with her going to her parent's house period.

You mean, people need to stop attacking cops and when the cop feels his life is in danger, shoots said criminal? Huh. I'd also go to that protest!
We need more cameras. That's what needs to change. You could probably equip an entire police force with wearable cameras and additional cameras on cruisers for the price of a new cruiser or two, but in the long run it would save the departments a lot of money in defense of officer action.
We are seeing more and more officers who are trigger happy, and more perps who do dumb things that we will never know if a tazer or mace would have been sufficient.
You'll need to log in to post.
