His Corsi numbers on his own weren't horrible, but he sure didn't pass the eye test at all, did he?

Anyways, with the Caps crunch hit coming up you have to figure that their window is closed and Ovi's chances at the cup are gone for the next few years.

You know what they say about that. There are three kinds of lies. Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

I read two convincing articles yesterday using advanced stats to prove the same player was both very good and not very good.

The Caps would be smart to move on from Ovechkin if they can.

Players in rugby don't wear helmets. I saw a skull fracture from two people colliding head to head. The force behind two 200 pound bodies colliding head to head at even 6 MPH is pretty substantial.

Maybe that's why they take the concussion protocol so seriously. No helmets.

I know they don't--but my point is that they don't really need them. Other than other people, what is there that could give them a concussion? The ground can't. There are no boards. No sticks. The playing implement isn't a hard rubber disc and it isn't flying at triple digit speeds.

In hockey, you have the ground which is hard as a rock, boards surrounding you, sticks, pucks, etc. Even if you've completely removed checking and penalties (dirty play) from the game, concussions are still going to be there.

I don't disagree. The pads in hockey are there for a reason, too. I'm just saying that concussions are possible in rugby, and agreeing that Rugby Union has a much better system in place to diagnose them, even if they are less likely and common.

The ground absolutely can, as can the ball.

My one concussion during the decade I was playing rugby was definitely acquired via head to ground contact.
The pair of gentlemen depositing me on my head may have also had something to do with it, but yeah.
You don't need a lot of hard objects around to hurt yourself, especially with the size of many ruggers.
Hell, I'm 6'3" @ 225 and thanks to rugby don't think of myself as a big person.

As for hockey, what a wild ending to Game 4 Preds/Ducks!
Of course, soon as I admitted to a real Pens fan (coworker) that I was pulling for them, they get demolished.
Curious to see if Crosby ending his drought will give him any momentum next game.

Even with the goal, he was -3. Hoping that trend continues.

My friend is a pens fan, and he's frustrated with all of the Mulkin bashing- who's line didn't score last game, but they also were the only line not to be scored on. And the guy leading the team in scoring. Whereas Crosby gets a pass because he scored a meaningless goal after getting scored on during the game. Funny.

Goaltender interference my ass.
Canada can thank the refs for game 7.

Looked like interference to me.

I'm gonna be in Ottawa for Game 7. Too bad it's in Pittsburgh, Ottawa is going to be delirious. I might have to find a sports bar to watch it. Let's hope they can keep it together.

Don't assume that Canada cares.

The people of Ottawa don't even care enough to fill the arena.

I'd bet near the stadium would be the most fun.

In reply to Zomby Woof:

I assume that if I am willing to cheer against the Sens almost entirely on the basis of their being Canadian, there are some metric folks willing to cheer for them for the same reason.
Hell, a Canadian coworker is cheering for them mostly because they're Canadian, only partially to spite me.

If you don't think Ottawa is nuts about the Senators, you've never actually been there. The place will be rocking.

And yes, there are a bunch of people who cheer for whatever Canadian team remains. Hockey is a big deal in the GWN and there's some national pride involved. I mean, Nashville doesn't even get a real winter. It'll be fun to watch the game on CBC instead of NBC, given that the latter is basically only talking about the Penguins.

I will say that anytime you get a game 7, you've got two pretty evenly matched teams. Love it.

As much as I dislike the Sens, huge credit to Anderson, played out of his damn mind to keep the game going.
Should be an exciting final series, curious to see how Nashville looks having played significantly less games than the Pens to get here.

Also, yes, I see the humor in my switching from cheering for to cheering against the Pens now that the Sens are out.
Go Preds!

I was watching the game at Seneca lodge at Watkins Glen with all my racing friends.
