This pilot drops his skydivers and makes a very fast descent and landing.

that reminds me of flying the Cessna 310 back from Minnasota. No sky divers mind you. It sure was fun though. Looking at the fishing boats on Lake Michigan at very close to sea level.

That's about the way most of my landings used to look in Flight Simulator.

A very good friend owns a Robinson R 21 helicopter. It was in Oregon, he wanted to fly it here to South Florida. Made it as far as Rawlins WY where they hit really bad weather, and tried to land. 73mph gust hit him, they went down hard. Chopper is toast, he is in the hospital here, broken ribs, pneumonia, and a whole lot of bruises. Guy at the site ran over and asked if he was alright, he replied, yeah, just fine. Practicing crash landings, you know. 73yo pilot instructor.

I've gone skydiving exactly twice, and after one of the jumps, the plane raced us down like that. I was glad not to be on the plane any more. Of course, that was onto a grass runway not a fancy paved one like this softie has. ;-)

That turn to final is lower than what I would do. If one were standing at the corner of the runway their head might get scraped by the wingtip.

CWH, I am sorry to hear of your friend's misfortune. That mountain weather can be nasty.

His wife, my wife, and I were very worried about a trip like this. Winter weather and all. Sad thing is he has a new 35' motorhome in Oregon and a flatbed trailer that carries the chopper just fine. Shoulda, coulda, woulda.
