sad - Im not a yankess fan, but a fan of those who can get the job done. The sports world will miss him. His legacy will stand for a loooong time.
Is baseball much different than racing? It boils down to how fa$t do you want to go? If something is worth doing, do it RIGHT! Get the best you can afford.

All of his pictures are Resting in Peace. Perhaps someday in the next 20 years, Abe will follow...
I never met Mr. Steinbrenner, but I have family members who knew him well and described him as a generous, loyal and kind man.
My grandfather was buried with a baseball signed by then Yankees players, and the largest flower arrangement in the room had a pinstriped ribbon and was signed simply - "George".
I am saddened to learn of his passing.
When I was in middle school, the annual eighth grade field trip was a week in Washington D.C. On the way to the airport, the bus broke down and all the students missed the flight, and eventually waited in the airport for several hours until another (late night) flight with enough empty seats was found.
Once on the plane, one of the kids asked the stewardess if he could see the cockpit and meet the pilot. When he was walking through First Class, with a Yankee hat on, he saw George Steinbrenner sitting there and asked for an autograph. George singed, and asked where the kid was headed. He told him the whole story about the field trip, the bus and the long wait in the airport.
A few weeks later, George Steinbrenner sent my entire school to a Yankee game.
I wasn't a Yankee fan at the time, but I have been ever since and I will never forget that day.
ESPN coverage " George Steinbrenner dead of heart attack " and now back to our coverage of Lebron goes to Miami
George got to Heaven and everyone had the Bawston Accent like this guy.....LOL
This still makes me laugh.

he once fired a manager for JUST winning the pennant ... hint... didn't win the world series... tough guy to work for
At lunch today the TV was showing a bit on Stienbrenner. One woman at the table next to me said "I don't see what the big deal is, he did what a dozen episodes of Seinfeld and that makes him some kind of god?" I know a lot of people don't follow sports but to live in New York City and not know who he is is just unexcusable.

True, but by the time he was doing Seinfeld, Steinbrenner had mellowed considerably.

Or a Met fan.

It sounds as if he quietly gave lots of money to lots of schools.
