Hey there, so i'm planning on being the stig for halloween, and i don't want to pay the hundreds of dollars for a new helmet and racing suit that i'm not gonna use until maybe later, when it might not be up to snuff. (i drive an old conversion van currently, not exactly racing material sadly, though i was tempted by a nice E30 318ti that was on craigslist last week) so i was wondering, do any of you guys have any tips for constructing an affordable stig costume? or even better, if anyone has any white suit or helmet that you don't want anymore that i could buy or borrow (i would be supremely careful)? i'm in appleton, WI if any of you guys are arround here. my head is pretty big (XL i think), but i'm only 5'11" and normal build. thanks!

Be prepared to do a lot of 'splainin as to who you are. Maybe try a painters coverall instead of the driver' suit.

Nah, not talking is part of the costume. But you are allowed to gesture to the ladies that you think with your dipstick.

I was really close to doing this until I realized the following: I could not drink my favorite frosty beverage while in costume.

And what is this E30 you speak of? Surely you mean E36? I need a linky, I'm interested in either, and not out of driving distance of Appleton.

Just grab a camelback or simlar device and run the straw through your suit and up your helmet.

It would be cheaper to go as Speed Racer, then you ONLY need an open face helmet, and then the rest is just regular clothes that looks like Speed's. Blue Polo with a white collar, white pants, yellow gloves, brown shoes, and most importantly, you don't have to be a mute, and can drink with ease.

But then again you'd look like this guy...

The Stig is arguably more badass, but you'd get mad props if you Mach 5ified your car.

Stig was going to go as a washer or dryer, but Kim has to work the day of the halloween party around these parts so I'll probably just be going as a dad, instead of our original idear.

overworked house-husband?

Guy chasing his missing socks?

Stig's father? (Darth Stig)

I think it would be hilarious if everyone at GRM came as Stig for the party.

it was black, 1989 (i think) $1500, 190K miles. i tried to find it again but it's gone now sadly...

my van is in the readers rides section. i think it would be awfully tough to mach 5 that thing! though it may be much much cooler than how it currenly looks...

and as for explaining, there are actually quite a few people around here who watch top gear, i was very surprized! i even found all of the episodes on someones school share folder... heheheh

If the van is white do it up as the Mach 10. Big red M on the hood, 10 in a red gumball on the side... Um a kid and an ape in the back. (Might get in trouble for that last one.)
