I'm surprised thieves would go to the trouble of hauling away a non-runner.

Is this common in Ohio? The other case I've hear a lot about was Karl Kleve and his pile of Ferrari race car, also in Ohio...

From what I have learned, thieves prefer to tow away rather than hotwire. Looks less suspicious, especially if the car is at a shop to begin with.

After learning that, I always parked my cars nose in with the steering turned all the way to the curb. Won't stop someone determined, but it would slow them down a bunch, hopefully enough to make them go somewhere else.

There was also some shady behaviour with the previous owner that points to that specific car being targeted.

Oh you can not just drop that bit and not follow up on that.

We had them drive through a chained gate to steal an 85 Monte Carlo rusty and in various shades of primer with a bad transmission and a blown engine. It was only at the shop one day. Southern Ohio.

I don't have all the details but it was posted on the Ohio Miata Owners facebook group. Apparently he bought the car and got a bill of sale and the seller was supposed to have the title notarized. He never got the title and the seller stopped answering phone calls and deleted his facebook apparently soon after this happened. The Miata was the only non-running car on the lot.

well.. that does point at the seller.. should not be hard for the police to track that lead down.

Just hope this whole thing is not a -lot- more shady than it seems

My Falcon was tow-truck stolen. My neighbors recognized the tow truck, it belonged to the company that tows for the local PDs, I found it stashed in the far back of the impound lot. The police did not order a tow, and the owner of the company said he didn't know it was there, after claiming they didn't have it at all. Stuff happens in the ghetto.

I wonder if a payday loan place is holding the title of the Miata, or has a semi-legit lien on it?

It is a violation to purchase a car that has no title.

There is almost always grief.
