On TV it seems that all the talkers call it a straightaway while those of us around speed sports just call it the Straight.
Just curious.
OOPS ,left out a letter in the title. We should have spell check there.

By contrast, do the talkers call it a curve-away? No, its a curve. By that rational, its a straight. The talking heads are wrong. We are right.
It seems to be dependent on who the commentator is and the track involved. All the above seem to be popular somewhere.
Straightaway right off the bat let me assure everyone it's a linear thing I think. Are we straight?
Now what throws me a curveball ( sorry baseball continues in the Nations Capital ) is there such a thing as a Minor Straight?
I mean there's a Main Straight. Should be a Minor one in there somewhere like Pocono or something else weird.
Synonyms, all of em.
the real question is, is it a "box truck" or a "box van"
i have spent far too much time thinking about that one. what makes a van different from a truck, and if they both have a big box on the back, aren't those differences basically moot?
In reply to slowbird :
careful. We'll get caught up in the *****-back wars again. They make the Punic Wars look like a Sunday afternoon stroll.

In a box van you can enter the cargo area without getting out.
Box truck, no way.
