Yes, I know my computer is a bit antiquated, but I can't listen to Pandora and scroll a page on another tab without the music getting choppy and cutting out. Is there another similar site that's not a resource hog?

Deezer was good in Denmark, but not available in the states apparently.

Grooveshark?

Edit: Your computer might also be perfectly okay, it could be your browser that is very old/out of date. What browser/version are you using? You might try downloading the newest version of Firefox.

Spotify?

My wife prefers it over Pandora for music choice, but not sure on resource usage.

I had the same problem with my old computer, but never with my newer computer. You may be stuck with this issue until you upgrade your 286 with 26K modem

I used to use shoutcast's website with winamp. I think you can use shoutcast with other media programs, but I'm not sure. The TuneIn Radio app on my phone is pretty cool, you could check to see if they have a website equivalent.

I use pandora on my phone since our computers are not allowed to use outside files. We can't download or pop a flash card in without IT approval. I just don't bother with it; I found out last month that you are only allowed 40 hours of pandora use each month for free.

Spotify is my choice, but I honestly have no clue about the resource hogging.

My browser is definitely up to date. The weird part is it doesn't do it if I use MS Explorer, but I hate explorer.

Hey now, this machine is a state of the art XP box, built somewhere around '05, with the maximum amount of RAM allowed by law (or at least the motherboard)!

Considering that the spotify web player has been loading for the last five minutes or so, I'm guessing that service isn't any less bloated than pandora.

Never like the selection (metal) on Pandora. lastfm was the go-to for a while but now it's been Spotify for full album listening.

DId the Pandora thing but falling out of love. I've been running Accuradio recently, seems to be working well.

Are there other sites like this one that are what ever kind of music you want to listen to? Or there are a lot of online radio stations out there maybe one of those?

Does spotifiy still do that "Only listen to 10 hours of music a month without paying" thing?

Spotify seems to be pretty much unlimited for free for me so far. I like both it and Grooveshark better than Pandora these days.

Internet-only SiriusXM is cheap too.
