Try bike shops. Although they have largely been replaced by stretchy lyrca gloves, you can still find string back gloves occasionally.

These are called crochet (pronounced crow-shay) gloves. If someone came in asking for stringback gloves I would not know what the hell they were talking about. Equestrian/tack stores will have ones with more supple leather.
