It was fine originally, but I really like this version.
Claptons second acoustic version of Layla counts, too.

Ha! When I saw the thread title, I was immediately going to suggest Colin Hay's album Man at Work!
The whole album is really good, and I was admittedly pretty tired of the original stuff when the new versions were released. And the new stuff is 22 years old already!
Elvis Costello's re-vamp of his seminal "(What's so funny about) Peace, Love, and Understanding?"
The more recent (but gosh now still old) mellow, slower version may have displaced the youthful furor of the original both for Mr. Costello and for many of us.
Louiche Mayorga co-wrote Institutionalized, the evergreen single from Suicidal Tendencies’ 1983 debut album.
Six years ago, he released a Spanish version with his current band, Luicidal.

Of course that's where my mind went. I liked some of the extra bits, but always fast forward past the singing lady in Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I thought 1983 was a typo. I had no idea when I "discovered" ST in the mid 90s that I was basically listening to Classic Rock. I guess I'm going to go buy some metamucil and shop for a retirement facility or something now.
