I've been looking at getting a small truck for a while. A friend sent me this site and I have to say I could see myself owning one of these. I wonder how hard it would be to buy one of these and send it here.

You're gonna need a Dalmatian.
Doesn't matter, unless you want to pay a 25% import duty on it.
Too cool.
Looks like you could make camper-like accommodations out of the rear area.

In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
Ouch. I forgot about taxes.

9000kg at 2.2lbs per kg is one heavy truck at 19800lbs, Mongo is 29000 and ClifFord is 8300
Where do you get parts for that?
Wally, a guy in our Soaring club buys gliders from Europe all the time and flips them here. Want me to ask about importing, taxes, shipping etc.?
Dan
Yup, the 25 year exemption applies.
and it does seem that trucks have a 25% import duty. (less familiar with the CPB side of it)

Dutiable Entry
Foreign-made vehicles imported into the U.S., whether new or used, either for personal use or for sale, are generally dutiable at the following rates:
Auto 2.5%
Trucks 25%
Motorcycles either free or 2.4%
Duty rates are based on price paid or payable. Most Canadian-made vehicles are duty-free.
As a returning U.S. resident, you may apply your $800 CBP exemption and those of accompanying family members toward the value of the vehicle if it:
Accompanies you on your return;
Is imported for personal use;
Was acquired during the journey from which you are returning.
For CBP purposes, a returning U.S. resident is one who is returning from travel, work, or study abroad.
After the exemption has been applied, a flat duty rate of 3% is applied toward the next $1,000 of the vehicle’s value. The remaining amount is dutiable at the regular duty rate.
Now, it looks like... if you and your wife go and look at it overseas you can (Possibly) knock $1600 off the taxable value of it (Maybe). You would have to talk to CPB about it.
In reply to 914Driver: not yet, still collecting spare change.
Truck my ass, that's an SUV if I ever saw one. Get car plates.
The chicken tax should not apply since it has a back seat. If the jump seats in the BRAT were enough than that should be plenty.
How about this?

Or this?

Neither is legal under the 25 year rule, but maybe you can get creative.
Wally, I love your taste in trucks.
I'm pretty sure that's too big for UPS to take. How do you go about shipping your average firetruck to the states?
In reply to 1988RedT2:
Ideally I would take all my vacation at once, do a bit of sightseeing and drive east. Hit the Bering strait in February and drive it across. Then I keep going until I need to get back to work, fly home and have it shipped the rest of the way. I like that Hiace in Canada, I wonder what shenanigans it would take to get it down here.
This is the one I was trying to find for you Wally. It should be legal soon if not now for import. It all depends on the build date.

Import it to mexico, it might magically make its way to NY still laden with coke.
In reply to Mazdax605: it must have been good, it's already sold
I doubt it wally. I have seen it off and on for about 2 months. I searched 1989 delica in Craigslist Vancouver. Usually I find it. It is a Toyota dyna fire truck.

Suddenly this became relevant to my interests.
Over seas they get the Isuzu ELF FB Body, which basically an NPR with a passenger van body. This combined with a high top roof would probably be my dream utility vehicle.
Diesel, easy to work, common parts, relatively inexpensive, but still stealthy enough to park just about anywhere.
