These stupid buggers keep pecking on my roof. They peck on my skylight. They peck on the metal cap on my chimney. This morning I was woken up by three of them all pecking at the same time. GET OFF MY ROOF!!!

I had that problem last year. One of them was pecking on the metal edge of the roof. He liked to do it between 5 and 6am. Has not returned this year yet, hopefully he doesn't.
I read somewhere it was either a mating call or a way to "mark" their territory.

Looks like it ate some Taco Bell out of a dumpster and is now facing the consequences.

Weird. That picture is from my highschool.
In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
That would hurt my roof more than the pecking. I tried a BB gun, but they fly off as soon as you get the sights on them. They are skittish enough I think the owl or E36 M3ting coyote may work.
Cut out the silhouette of a hawk in flight out of dark plastic (or paint it black). Hang from the corner of the roof where they are most active so that it moves in the breeze. Pinwheels (the kids toy) with reflective elements work well too, you can probably attach them near the chimney easily. I would definitely take action to keep them from becoming established, they can be hard to get rid of once they are.
