Nothing wrong with charging what the market will bear. It's not like they have monopolized the market on cars or anything - there are plenty of choices out there and plenty of chances for this buyer to have known what the berkeley he was doing.
the best part is that you can buy the car used in 6 months to a year from a used car lot that buys it at auction after it gets repo'ed or traded in on something with a lower monthly payment.

Yeah, you can't really blame the dealer. I don't agree with it, but they did it and made an extra 5k. No law against selling to stupid people.

If you do that, you'll likely pay more for it than you would for a brand new one.

This does beg the question, why is there a market adjustment on a regular ole imprezza?

Because its the Pacific NW and the rainy season has landed and people believe the commercials and still can't drive.

It is one of their major safety talking points. ;)

Yup. I gave my mom all kinds of flak for stupidly trading in her 4y.o. fully payed for Corolla to buy a 6y.o. Prius with several thousand dollars on top with the hopes that she'd be saving money.
Sometimes people listen though. When my fiance went to buy a new car we hunted a bit and found a couple year-old RX-8 nearby that still had a couple years and healthy amount of mileage left on the warranty. She was very pleased to pick that up for several thousand less than what a new Ford Fiesta would have cost.
And spend three times as much for gas.

I understand people being afraid of crashing or not being able to move in the white stuff without AWD.. after all, it is slippery and cold stuff.. but rain?

Hint: not all of the folks who live in the NW are actually from the NW ;)
Hey Javelin,
Just let it go and don't bring it up. These people will be reminded of their stupidity every month for the next five years. Especially when they want to go somewhere in their new car but don't have any money left.

Good change on that, I still prefer the cliff method though
