With finishing up the garage and redoing a couple rooms in the house, I am hanging a bunch of things on the wall and I want to be sure I don't hit a wire but my stud finder is seems to be incredibly inaccurate. In the garage, it says there are wires where I know there are no wires.

Do I need to spend some money for a nicer stud finder (currently have a cheap Zircon) like this one? Bosch stud finder

Or is there some other tool that works better for this?

I have one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/Extech-TG20-Wire-Tracer-Generator/dp/B00APD16D2

Works great and is dirt cheap.

With those do you take off the outlet cover and clip the gator clips to the wires in the outlet and then follow the wires? Or how do they work?
