So on top of losing the rescue dog, the house, and getting divorced.......today I caught up in the "Reduction of Force" at work. They nailed a bunch of other well paid office people as well.

Ugh.

Ouch. That really bites.

Go out and get another rescue dog? Otherwise, start a consulting business. You're smart and experienced. Or move to Chicago, buy my Miata, and I'll buy you a beer.

Best of luck with the job hunt. Hopefully there was a package with the reduction.

Yeah there was decent severance package but after being wiped out from the divorce, still a relatively quick response will be needed.

That does suck. Sorry to hear it man.

OK, that sucks. But it is a chance to completely remake yourself in the way you've always wanted. When I divorced I had become someone I didn't recognize as me. You've gotten a do over. Make it good.

I too will say, "go for the full re-invention of yourself."
I know it sound cliche but you really could come out of this better.
Stay positive, you have an interesting road ahead of you. Embrace the positive aspects, even if your immediate thoughts are that there are few positives.

That sucks, alright. No doubt about it, that major sucks. But there are other rescue dogs available.

Was the divorce finalized before your severance came in? .

Just trying to help you look on the bright side man. Don't forget you've got a lot of people here rooting for you!

The silver lining is how much flexibility you've been handed through all of this. That does sound like a trying time and I hope you can make the most of it. Good luck on figuring out your next adventure.

On the humorous side, your situation seems like a good Country & Western song even though you haven't said anything at all about Mama or trains or trucks or prison, or getting drunk.

So, to cheer you up I give you David Allen Coe,
the Steve Goodman version
and John Prine version

You're in Oklahoma, you should be OK

Ok, but seriously: I saw you were a "technical writer" in your profile. There were no "technical writing" positions in your area with the company I work for, but I know there are some in other areas if you were willing to relocate. PM me if you're interested (the hiring process is slow here, but you never know)

Well, silver linings... it's a fine time to appeal for lower alimony due to "Material Change In Circumstances".

Also, moto camping across the hemisphere is relatively cheap compared to keeping a place. No time like an unexpected drop in responsibility to see the world! It also makes it much harder to serve you with papers if you don't get that alimony thing taken care of ;)

Apropos of nothing in particular...

My brother hiked the length of the Appalachian trail. He noted that pretty much every one doing the long haul was doing so as part of a personal discovery/re-invention process.

Yep, I had been planning on relocating anyway due to lack of positions around here, but was hoping I'd get until Q1 of next year to replenish the savings before a move.

I'll shoot you a message shortly. Thanks!

Hi z31maniac,

That’s a pretty crappy hand you just got dealt.

I see you’re 33, I was 29 when the universe decided to drop its britches and spray an epic trifecta of poo in my face…wife left me for a chick, home on the brink of foreclosure, grad school time allowance running out; oh E36 M3!

I got through it, others have gotten through it, and you’ll get through it too.

Baby steps man…identify some things that are within your control that can be accomplished in a short period of time…get them done, check them off, reward yourself for the accomplishment, rinse and repeat until you’re back on your feet.

Oh, and if you haven’t already, get laid…you’ll feel a lot better.

I had my world fall apart too. Widowed, lost my job of 12 years and my car was destroyed in 5 days.

Don't let it turn you negative. As you can clearly see the world is a E36 M3ty place, having a E36 M3ty attitude about only makes it worse.

I came out of it a better person. When life knocks you down that much I chose to focus on making myself happier instead of wallowing in pity and rage.
