No tats here, I cause myself enough pain without paying someone to stick needles in me.

The wife has two. One on the front, one on the back. Both of them are small and easily covered. She likes them and that's all that counts.

As far as the acceptance of them, I would have a hard time hiring someone to represent me with a death head tattooed on his/her arm or neck. There's a good chance they wouldn't ever get the interview. It isn't that they bother me, but probably would a lot of my customers. Especially in the hospitals where most of my work happens. Something tasteful or artistic would be a lot easier to pull off and more accepted.

I have two currently, both visible (only kept me out of a job once, and that was serving at Outback, so big deal)
One is for my friend who died in a car wreck in 06 (tattoo done by a friend, also) and the other is the letter C on my ring finger, my version of a wedding ring, because I don't like wearing jewelry. wife has the same but hers is red and the middle finger beside it is a heart.
want MANY more, have one picked out now that I want.
Btw that shift pattern is genius! lol If I ever got a 190e cosworth and fell in love with it, I'd get that dogleg 1st H pattern in a heartbeat lol

As Toyman says, I have two. You really won't see them unless I show them to you or am in a bathing suit or spaghetti strap shirt. I had a boss who sat there arguing with a coworker that there was NO way "SHE" would ever have one of those. I had to quietly correct him. Most don't even consider that I would have one. But there are lots of us out there with small, tasteful, well thought out tats who are quite happy with their decisions. I knew I wanted one at 18 years old. I did not get my first one until I was 30. 12 years kind of disproves the theory that we don't think out our decisions. I got my second at 40. I don't regret either at 43.

Sure, the removal doctor's make more than tattoo artists. It costs $60 for the smallest tattoo. To get one removed costs an average of $200 per treatment with 5-10 treatments to remove a small tat. So common sense says they make a fair amount of money. That doesn't mean that an equal number of people are getting rid of them or even close.

Those that get them while drunk, on a whim, with a skull and cross bones or up the back of their neck are quite likely to regret them over time or even the next day. It's common sense just like anything. Think about what you get and where you are getting it. As much as I hate that people judge, they do. That's just a fact of life. People will judge you for a tat, your Christian principles, the number of children you have or how you put your pants on.

If my children choose to get one, they KNOW my opinion. They aren't for everyone. They can affect what you do job wise so make sure that they are coverable and aren't going to embarrass you when you are a grandparent. They can't get one until they move out of our house and are paying their own bills.

I have 2 (little shamrock on my arm, winged piston thinger on my calf), and know what I want to do for 2 more. Also:

1. I don't care if people say they don't like them; they're not there for them
2. It's your body, you could die tomorrow, who cares if you put ink into it?
3. If anyone has a problem with the above, a. fire me, or, b. leave me alone and don't talk to me, because you're probably judgmental about other pointless things that don't affect you but you feel compelled to express your views on them, and that makes me want to hit you

I think they are getting easier and easier to remove these days anyway. I just don't have that level of commitment to anything.

I get criticism and smart ass remarks for having my wife's initial tattooed onto my ring finger instead of a ring, with people just rolling their eyes and other people saying "what are you going to do if you get divorced?"
She is important enough to me to want to spend the rest of my life with, and if for whatever reason we do ever get divorced, she will still have played a very large role in my life. no matter what.
I think about tattoos for months before getting them, and anything with that much consideration put into it will have a lasting meaning. And any position in which a tattoo limits my advancement is a position I don't give a E36 M3 about anyway.

My tattoos are all able to be covered in a military style police uniform. I like mine to mean something to me and be artistic bordering often on my religious beliefs. I plan on getting a Fleur De Lis and a galactic butterfly next.

Stereotypes? My 21yo grandson has a lot of ink. His son's footprint and date of birth, lot's of Bible verses, stuff that does not make any sense to me. He is also on probation after a conviction for felony domestic abuse.

I was actually hired at my current job partly as a RESULT of my tattoo. Turned out one of the guys interviewing me had a couple and thought mine was pretty cool

Granted, I'm a biologist so its not like a wear a suit to work or anything.

In reply to poopshovel: Thanks. It took me about two years to come up with a design that had all three species. Even then, there was some tweaking by the tattoo artist but I am very happy with the end result. I wasn't so happy with the amount of black fill-in near the inside of my calf. I must have a lot of nerve endings there.

I just have my late father's initials on my left bicep. I've had it for 10 years now.

I want a couple others, but I always find something else to spend the money on.
